摘要:
We have evaluated the &Sgr; nucleus optical potential with a minimum of theoretical input, relying particularly on phenomenology. With this potential we have looked for the bound states in several nuclei, with the result that in light and medium nuclei several states have widths smaller than the separation between neighboring states.

摘要:
A 0° facility is being developed for the study of meson production in proton‐nucleus collisions and other investigations at intermediate bombarding energies at an internal target position (TP2) of COSY. A set of three laminated magnets will provide a closed orbit bump for the proton beam and deflection as well as momentum analysis for ejectiles withp0/30=p=p0/2 (p0=projectile momentum). this facility will enable the spectroscopy of rare ejectiles like K+mesons with a momentum resolution of =1%. It also allows studies of ejectiles emitted under 180° like protons from deuteron breakup.

A new three‐magnet Chicane combined with an existing K300 Spectrometer are planned for installation in the S‐straight section of the IUCF Cooler ring. Some classes of physics experiments accessible to this system and a description of the experimental layout are given.

摘要:
An approved and funded exclusive COSY experiment is presented, which focuses on near threshold two meson production via the reactionsp+d→3He+&pgr;+&pgr;−andp+d→3 He+K+K−. It takes advantage of the high quality of the cooled external COSY beam and the existing spectrometer BIG KARL. The setup consists of a vertex wall and a scintillator cylinder and endcap covering a 4&pgr; solid angle. The large efficiency and high resolution of this detection method will yield precision data on the low energy (T<50 MeV) meson‐meson interaction and probe into questions like the ABC‐effect and KK&dundot; molecule. The detector further allows a measurement of possible radiative &fgr; (1020) decay, which will directly probe the strange quark content of thef0(975). Existing inclusive data as well as first results of a very recent ‘semi‐exclusive’ experiment performed at SATURNE will be also be presented.

摘要:
An experiment is described which is presently being prepared to be done at internal target station TP2 of COSY. It focuses on (but is not confined to) spin averaged as well as spin dependent observables in elasticp‐pscattering with an eye on dibaryonic resonances. The detector concept, status of construction and Monte Carlo simulations are described, feasibility is discussed, and accuracy/sensitivity estimates are given.

摘要:
Experimental results of parity violation in proton‐proton scattering are reviewed. Since the parity violation in proton‐proton scattering at 230 MeV is &rgr;‐exchange dominated, this experiment given additional independent information for the weak meson‐nucleon coupling constants. With the cooler sychrotron COSY at Ju¨lich, this aspect of weak interaction and the energy‐dependence of Azup to 2.5 GeV can be measured. Consequences for the experimental set‐up are discussed.

摘要:
For the associated strangeness production process pp→KYN, we want to measure total and differential cross sections, the mass spectra of all subsystems and the hyperon polarization. The latter is related to the polarization of the strange quark. The data should shed light on the dynamics of ss¯ quarkpair creation. They should be compared with results from pp¯→YY¯ and &ggr;p→KY experiments, where the ss¯ creation is embedded in different hadronic surroundings. The experimental setup, on an external COSY beam with a LH2target, will consist of a highly granulated scintillation counter time of flight spectrometer and wire chamber for precise track and decay vertex reconstruction. The on line trigger will make use of the delayed decay of Y→N&pgr; or K→K+&pgr;−. Full solid angle coverage will be achieved. This will allow for complete kinematical reconstruction of each event. This experiment further profit from a polarized beam.

摘要:
The study of light hyper‐nuclei via associated strangeness production in (p,K+) reactions is discussed. Though the process is characterized by a very large momentum transfer the presence of short range correlations is expected to rise the cross section up to the order of nb/sr. Two approved proposals for high resolution studies of this reaction are discussed and respective detection limits are presented. The first is scheduled for October 1990 at the SPES4 spectrometer at the SATURNE acclerator (LNS Saclay). The second deals with the planned upgrading of the BIG KARL magnetic spectrograph at the cooled beam facility COSY being bulit at Forschungsanlage Ju¨lich.

摘要:
An experiment is briefly described which we are preparing for the study of heavy &Lgr; hypernuclei, their formation in the (p, K+) reaction, their &Lgr; decay half life and other &Lgr; decay features. The planned recoil shadow measurement of fission fragments is expected to yield the required background discrimination. The experiment uses the unique features of COSY‐Ju¨lich.
