摘要:
New deposition technique, ‘‘guest‐host anchoring method’’, has been developed for scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) visualization of biological macromolecules with clear discrimination against artifacts. The electroactive protein (cytochrome c3) molecules were embedded in the liquid crystal matrix, and imaged by STM as a function of applied voltage. Those STM images are encouraging for potential application of this new method to the STM imagings of a wide range of uncoated biological macromolecules.

摘要:
Calculations of constant current STM images of Xe atoms adsorbed on a Cu(110) surface are presented. These calculations are based on an extension to STM of the Elastic Scattering Quantum Chemistry (ESQC) method. The tip apex atomic and electronic structure are optimized to get on Cu(110), with and without Xe atoms adsorbed, a corrugation comparing well with the experimental one. The electric properties of the Eigler atomic switch are discussed. Finally, preliminary results concerning atomic writing with Xe atoms are proposed.
