摘要:
We discovered new macroscopic phenomena, self‐organized shock wave, through the study of the well‐defined simple microscopic model by performing an large scale event‐driven molecular dynamics simulation. These phenomena are excited by collective motion of collisions between an inelastic hard disk and the shock front propagate much larger the particle diffusion. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
We take Ginzburg‐Landau approaches to the dynamics of orientational phase ordering coupled to elastic degrees of freedom. In nematic fluid membranes, subdiffusively slow shape relaxation limits the defect coarsening kinetics. In lamellar binary gels, coarsening is frozen by random stress that acts via a coupling between strain and layer orientation. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
We have examined the instantaneous‐normal‐mode spectra of the Lennard‐Jones 2n‐n fluids with an aim to characterize the potential energy landscape (PEL) of a simple system. Under the isothermal‐isochoric ensemble, the fluid density and the value of n are two independent parameters to control the PEL. We perform two ways of investigation by changing the value ofnat a fixed fluid density and temperature and varying the fluid density for several differentnvalues. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
We perform the Brownian‐dynamics simulations on dilute suspensions of highly charged colloids with Tokuyama attractive potential. We then show that there exist two kinds of droplet phases in addition to a gas phase, a liquid‐droplet phase and a crystal‐droplet phase. The detailed structures of those droplets are analyzed by the calculating the radial distribution function. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
We perform two kinds of computer simulations on polydisperse hard‐sphere systems; a molecular‐dynamics simulation on atomic systems and a Brownian‐dynamics simulation on colloidal suspensions. By the analyses of the mean square displacement and the radial distribution function, the simulation results suggest that the long‐time behavior of colloidal suspensions is exactly the same as that of atomic systems. It is also shown that there exist three phase regions, a liquid phase region, a metastable phase region, and a crystal phase region, where the freezing and melting points in polydisperse case are shifted to the values higher than in monodisperse case. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
Brownian‐dynamics simulations without the hydrodynamic interactions between particles are performed to investigate two‐dimensional dilute suspensions of magnetic colloidal particles under a static magnetic field. From the detailed analyses of the numerical results, we obtain the phase diagram for the magnitude of magnetic potentialJand the area fraction &sgr;. The results also suggests that the phase transition line is determined only by the value of the parameter&Ggr;(= J&sgr;32), where &Ggr; ≃ 68 at the melting point. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
We have studied orientation‐ordered transitions of small anisotropic molecules in confinement based on standard constant‐pressure Monte Carlo molecular simulation. These molecules are modeled by the hard Gaussian overlap (HGO) model with a small elongation parameter. Two different confining geometries (slit pores and mixtures of HGO) are studied, which confining surfaces are composed of two hard parallel plane and the molecular surfaces of some large HGO molecules, respectively. In both cases, there is no attractive interaction between the confining surfaces and the small molecules which favors the orientation alignment. We found, although the small HGO molecules cannot form stable orientation‐ordered phases in bulk due to their too small molecular elongation, a liquid‐crystal (LC) phase form in the nanometre‐scale confinement. It means that the required molecular elongation for forming LC phases will decrease in confinement. Our obtained result implies that small anisotropic molecules might show liquid crystal behavior in confinement. © 2004 American Institute of Physics
