摘要:
It is now more than 45 years since Pauli1(1930) and Fermi2(1933) formulated the neutrino hypothesis and 25 years since Clyde Cowan and I and our colleagues at Los Alamos3‐5made the first, tentative observation of the free neutrino at a Hanford reactor via the inverse beta process &ngr;+Pip→n+e+.

摘要:
The possibility of catalytic acceleration of the proton‐proton reaction in the solar interior is considered. It is shown that such acceleration may well be the case when two protons beta‐decay to form a deuteron in the vicinity of a third nuclear particle, such as p,4He,3He, and d. The effect of nuclear catalysis on the solar neutrino flux is also discussed.

The research program of the Homestake long‐range neutrino detector is described. The main elements of this program are to look for &ngr;eand ?ebursts from the gravitational collapes of massive stars, search for high‐energy neutrinos from localized astronomical sources, investigate possible vacuum or matter oscillations of cosmic‐ray neutrinos as they traverse the earth, and serve as a potential target for directed beams of neutrinos from high‐energy particle accelerators.

摘要:
The study of high‐energy neutrino interactions is a large water‐?erenkov detector (109tons) is shown to be feasible despite the limited energy resolution of such a device. The effects of an intermediate vector boson of mass less than &angupr;70 GeV may be observable. The implications of a copious source of directly produced neutrinos are explored. In particular, this may provide a mechanism for the direct observation of the charged intermediate vector boson and the study of the ’’natural’’ neutrino flux at &angupr;200 TeV.

摘要:
A detectable sonic signal is produced by charged particles while traversing a fluid medium. This phenomenon could be exploited in an inexpensive shower detector for the massive (≳104ton) neutrino detector necessary if one wishes to detect neutrinos at large distances from the next generation of high energy accelerators, e.g., the Fermilab energy‐doubler. It could also be used in the shower calorimeter of a massive (≳109ton) deep underwater detector of astrophysically produced neutrinos. This paper1discusses experiments exploring the global characteristics of both the acoustic‐generation mechanism and the radiation pattern. The results of the experiments are consistent with a simple thermal model for the transformation of the energy of moving charged particles into acoustic energy.
