摘要:
In this course we will concentrate on Transition Radiation and Ring Imaging Cherenkov detectors, since other particle identification methods are discussed in other courses. We describe the principle design of these detectors and discuss specific examples. © 2003 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
The basic properties of particle identification techniques based on the measurement of ionization energy loss and time‐of‐flight are described in detail in the light of the most recent technological advances. The underlying physical mechanisms, which determine the performance of these methods, are emphasized. © 2003 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
The physics of cosmic rays was intensively developed during the last century. The subject of ultra high energy cosmic rays has received special attention during the last partly due to the controversy between the results of the HiRes and AGASA Observatories and the puzzle caused by super‐GZK observed events. In this article we review the subject of cosmic rays, first from a historical point of view, then we give examples of methods of measuring cosmic ray properties, including those used in HiRes and AGASA.. © 2003 American Institute of Physics
