The elastic scattering4He(6He,&hthinsp;6He)4Hehas been investigated at center-of-mass energies of 11.6 and 15.9 MeV. Differential cross sections are determined using a post-accelerated6He(T1/2=0.807&hthinsp;s)beam in the center-of-mass angular range between 50 and 140 degrees. The comparison of the measured data with calculations using a double folding potential shows evidence for the 2n-transfer process in the4He(6He,&hthinsp;6He)4Heelastic scattering. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

The technique of intensity interferometry is presented as a probe of n-n haloes. After exploring the sensitivity of interferometry to the n-n configuration, it is demonstrated that, owing to the specific characteristics of the halo (principally the low momentum content), this technique can only be employed using a new iterative method which provides access to the intrinsic n-n correlation function. The method has been applied to a simultaneous measurement of the dissociation of the three established two-neutron halo systems,6He,11Liand14Be,and the n-n correlation functions and corresponding source sizes extracted for the first time. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

Investigations of light nuclei close to the drip lines have revealed new and intriguing features of the nuclear structure. The occurrence of halo structures in loosely bound systems has had a great impact on the nuclear physics research in the last years, as intriguing, but not yet solved, is the nature of transitions with very large beta strength. We report here on the investigation of this latter feature by an accurate measurement of the beta decay asymmetry between the mirror nuclei in theA=9mass chain. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

The experiment was performed at GANIL and the secondary beams of the halo nuclei11Beand11Liimpinged onto a Be target with energies of 38.5 MeV/u and 29.9 MeV/u, respectively. The distribution of neutrons in coincidence with fragments from the core-breakup reactions were studied. This reaction is interesting as the halo neutrons are expected to be released without any major distortion due to the reaction. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

The existence of &bgr;-delayed particle emission allows one to study the &bgr;-strength distribution, and thereby the ground-state structure, of exotic drip-line nuclei. A time-correlation method has been applied to recent data on the heaviest Be-isotopes to determine their neutron branches. Improved results were obtained for12Beand new results were found for the very short-lived neutron-emitter,14Be.©1999 American Institute of Physics.

The fragment separator FRS at GSI was used as an energy-loss spectrometer to measure the longitudinal momentum distributions of11,16,18Cfragments after one-neutron removal, and these of7,9Beafter one-proton removal in a C target at relativistic energies. The one-nucleon removal cross-sections(&sgr;−1n,&sgr;−1p)were also measured and compared with existing results for stable neighboring nucleus. The width of the momentum distribution obtained for18Cand7Befragments was smaller compared with the same measured quantities for12Cand8B.At the same time a significant increase in the cross-section of the one-proton removal channel (&sgr;(19C)−1nand&sgr;(8B)−1p) was observed. Those results, support a neutron halo structure in19C,and the one-proton halo of8B.©1999 American Institute of Physics.

The one-nucleon removal reactions from loosely bound carbon isotopes have been studied at FRS, GSI, using beam energies around 920 MeV/u. In particular, the longitudinal momentum distributions have been investigated, but cross sections have also been extracted. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.
