摘要:
The time projection chamber at TRIUMF is being used to search for muon‐electron conversion. The best spatial resolution in the TPC, &sgr;&bartil;200 &mgr;m, occurs at the minimum drift length and for an optimum track‐to‐anode crossing angle determined by the magnetic field. The observed resolution is dependent on th diffusion of the drifting electrons, the track‐to‐anode crossing angle, E&drarr;×B&drarr; effects near the anode wire and the discrete nature of the ionization process. Distortions due to positive ions leaking back into the drift volume from the anode wire region have been nearly eliminated by the use of a pulsed dual grid system.

摘要:
The Time Projection Chamber (TPC) being used at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) for a high statistics normal muon decay experiment is described. It is shown how the experiment will improve upon the limits of the weak interaction coupling constants by a factor of 5 through the measurement of the positron momentum and direction of emission with respect to the muon polarization vector for 108decays of stopped, polarized, positive muons. The TPC apparatus is described, and it is shown that even though more work is to be done to improve the detector acceptance and individual coordinate resolutions, for certain track topologies, the TPC already has a momentum resolution of 0.7% (sigma).

A helium TPC is being readied for an investigation of 2&ngr; and 0&ngr; double beta decay of82Se. The chamber is designed to display ∼1 MeV electron tracks in a magnetic field of 700 G. Helices fit to the tracks will be used to derive energies and opening angles for pairs of negative electrons originating on the selenium source.

摘要:
We describe a high pressure hydrogen gas time projection chamber which consists of two cylindrical drift regions each 45 cm in diameter and 75 cm long. Typically, at 15 atm of H2with 2 kV/cm drift field and 7 kV on the 35&mgr; sense wires, the drift velocity is about 0.5 cm/&mgr;sec and the spatial resolution ±200&mgr;.
