摘要:
The standard model of strong and electroweak interactions is surveyed. Some outstanding problems and compelling questions within that framework are outlined. The need for a diverse experimental program which addresses those issues on several broad fronts is advocated. Precision studies of electroweak radiative corrections are discussed with an emphasis on top quark and Higgs masses and ‘‘new physics’’ implications. An outlook for the future is given. ©1995 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Lepton‐flavor Conservation (LFC) is one of the corner stones of the standard model, but may be violated in almost any extension of it. The status of laboratory tests of LFC is reviewed, with emphasis on particle decays involving the charged leptons. A small violation could lead to measurable rates for some otherwise forbidden processes. A new round of dedicated searches for LFC‐violating &mgr; and K decays has started and some first results from the &mgr; experiments will be presented. ©1995 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Nucleon elastic form factors parametrize the internal structure of the nucleon as probed by the electroweak force. In particular, they provide information on the distribution of nucleon charge among sea and valence quarks and on the distribution of flavor in the nucleon. The recent measurements are reviewed and new techniques to experimentally determine the form factors are described. Future plans at the new high duty‐factor electron machines are discussed. ©1995 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Astrophysical implications of neutrino mass and mixings are discussed. The status of solar and atmospheric neutrino problems, and recent developments concerning nuclear physics input to solar models and solar opacities are reviewed. Implications of neutrino mass and mixings in supernova dynamics are explored. The effects of supernova density fluctuations in neutrino propagation is described. ©1995 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
The status of parity violation in the compound nucleus is reviewed. The results of previous experimental results obtained by scattering polarized epithermal neutrons from heavy nuclei in the 3‐pand 4‐pp‐wave strength function peaks are presented. Experimental techniques are presented. The extraction of the mean squared matrix element of the parity‐violating interaction,M2, between compound‐nuclear levels and the relationship ofM2to the coupling strengths in the meson exchange weak nucleon‐nucleon potential are discussed. The tendency of measured asymmetries to have a common sign and theoretical implications are discussed. New experimental results are presented that show that the common sign phenomenon is not universal, as theoretical models developed up to now would predict. ©1995 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
The current understanding of the early stage of heavy ion collisions at collider energies on the basis of the improved parton model and kinetic theory is presented. The space‐time evolution of these reactions is investigated in terms of the dissipative dynamics of (semi)hard quark and gluon interactions within perturbative QCD. The partons’ phase‐space distributions are evolved in real time according to a transport equation through multiple collisions, emission and absorption processes. The resulting parton cascade picture is applied to study the issues of thermalization, chemical equilibration, and particle production inAAcollisions at RHIC and LHC. ©1995 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
The present status of the search for constituent glue is reviewed with particular emphasis on recent results on scalar mesons. The possible evidence for a tensor glueball inducing high &Fgr;&Fgr; production rates through its mixing with ordinary q¯q mesons is recalled. Recent data from BNL suggest the existence of af1(1285)&pgr;IG(JPC)=1−1(1−+) state at about 2 GeV which might be the first in the predicted series of hybrid states. ©1995 American Institute of Physics.
