摘要:
The CLEO II detector, located in Ithaca, New York, is an excellent tool for the study of the tau lepton. With a peak luminosity of about 3×1032cm−2 s−1, CESR (Cornell Electron‐Positron Storage Ring) produces the highest luminosity of anye+e−collider. Having accumulated about 4 fb−1of data (approximately 3.6 million &tgr; pairs), CLEO II boasts the worlds largest sample of tau events. The CLEO II detector allows for a spectrum of measurements, including measurements of the tau mass, lifetime, a wide variety branching fractions, suppressed decays, study of rare decays, and a limit on the tau neutrino mass. As a consequence, CLEO has made a significant contribution to our understanding of the tau lepton. With the approval of the symmetric and asymmetric B factories, our knowledge will continue to increase. ©1996 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Recent progress and the future prospects in the energy regions of the &tgr; pair production and the charm meson thresholds is reviewed: Search for gluonia and hybrids, &tgr; and &ngr;&tgr;physics, Charmonium physics, Charmed meson and baryon physics,D−D¯ mixing, and CP violation. Since data taking started in 1990, the Beijing Spectrometer (BES) at the Beijing Electron‐Positron Collider (BEPC) has run at different energy settings covering theJ/&psgr; and &psgr;′ resonances and the &tgr; pair andDsproduction thresholds, leading to significant progress in these areas of particle physics. The merits of a &tgr;‐charm factory are investigated. It is concluded that a &tgr;‐charm factory is the ideal tool to explore the &tgr; and &ngr;&tgr;leptons and the physics of the charm quark providing a deeper understanding of the Standard Model of particle physics and exploring the frontier of its possible extensions. ©1996 American Institute of Physics.

The &tgr;±, highly polarized in the direction of the incident beam, can be obtained from thee±collider with the polarized incidente−beam. This polarization vectorw&drarr;ican be used to construct theTodd rotationally invariant product (w&drarr;i×p&drarr;&mgr;).w&drarr;&mgr;, wherep&drarr;&mgr;andw&drarr;&mgr;are the momentum and polarization of the muon in the decay &tgr;−→&mgr;−+&ngr;¯&mgr;+&ngr;&tgr;.Tis violated by the existence of such a term.CPcan be tested by comparing it with a similar term in &tgr;+decay. One can test whetherT(andCP) violation is due to the charged Higgs boson exchange by doing a similar experiment for the &mgr;±decay. ©1996 American Institute of Physics.

Addendum to the test of CP violation in tau decay |

摘要:
We discuss the test of CP and CPT violation in &tgr; decay without using the polarized electron beam by comparing partial fractions of &tgr;−and &tgr;+decay into channels with strong final state interactions. For example, &Ggr;(&tgr;−→&pgr;−+&pgr;0+&ngr;)≠&Ggr;(&tgr;+→&pgr;++&pgr;0+&ngr;) signifies violation of CP. The optimum energy to investigate CP violation in &tgr; decay is discussed. We conclude that this energy is a few MeV below &psgr;(2s) in order to avoid the charm contribution and over abundance of hadrons at the &psgr;(2s) peak. ©1996 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Hadronic decays rates of the &tgr; lepton into multi meson final states are presented. The structure of the hadronic matrix elements for various decay modes is discussed. The formalism of structure functions allows for a detailed test of these matrix elements. Various correlations are discussed which are sensitive to possible CP violation and new physics effects in the decay modes. ©1996 American Institute of Physics.
