摘要:
In this report, I will present the current status of the low-mass axigluon. The axigluon is a massive, color octet, axial vector boson, predicted in, e.g., chiral color models and some technicolor models, with a mass of order the electroweak scale. Axigluons with a mass larger than about 125 GeV to nearly 1 TeV can be eliminated by di-jet production at hadron colliders like the TEVATRON, but a low-mass window exists that the di-jet search can not probe. &Ugr; decays can rule out axigluons with a mass up to 25 GeV, and low energye+e−(PEP and PETRA) can rule out axigluons with a mass up to 50 GeV using a measurement ofR. Top production at the TEVATRON disfavors a light axigluon. A measurement ofRat LEP strongly disfavors a light axigluon, and rules out an axigluon with mass <365 GeV. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
In this talk, an overview of the status of the light scalar mesons in the context of the non linear chiral Lagrangian of references [1–3] is presented. The evidence for the existence of a scalar nonet below 1 GeV is reviewed, and it is shown that by introducing a scalar nonet an indirect way of probing the quark substructure of these scalars through the scalar mixing angle can be obtained. It is then reviewed that consistency of this non-linear chiral Lagrangian framework with the experimental data on &pgr;&pgr; and&pgr;Kscattering, as well as the decay&eegr;′→&eegr;&pgr;&pgr;,results in a range for the mixing angle which indicates that the quark substructure of these light scalars are closer to a four quark picture. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Using the QCD sum rule approach, we calculate the electric dipole moments of the&rgr;+meson and the neutron induced by a vacuum &thgr;-angle to approximately 40–50&percent; precision. In the latter case, we finddn=1.2×10−16&thgr;˜e⋅cm,which combined with the new experimental bound, translates into the limit|&thgr;¯|<6×10−10.©1999 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
We study “ultrastrong” coupling points in scale-invariantN=2gauge theories. These are theories where, naively, the coupling becomes infinite, and is not related by S-duality to a weak coupling point. These theories have been somewhat of a mystery, since in the M-theory description they correspond to points where parallel M 5-branes coincide. Using the low-energy effective field theory arguments we relate these theories to other knownN=2CFT. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
We show that in supersymmetric models with nontrivial flavor structure in the soft-breaking sector, one can have flavor changing neutral currents mediated by neutral Higgses. For&Dgr;S,&Dgr;B=2processes and for a generic form of the soft-breaking terms, we find that Higgs-mediated FCNC amplitudes increase very rapidly with tan &bgr; and can exceedSUSYbox contribution by up to two orders of magnitude whentan&hthinsp;&bgr;∼mt/mb.©1999 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
The radial mode ofnextra compact dimensions (the radion,b) can cause inflation in theories where the fundamental gravity scale,M, is smaller than the Planck scaleMP.For radion potentialsV(b)with a simple polynomial form, to get the observed density perturbations, the energy scale ofV(b)must greatly exceedM∼1&hthinsp;TeV:&hthinsp;V(b)1/4≡MV∼10−4MP.This gives a large radion mass and reheat temperature∼109&hthinsp;GeV,thus avoiding the moduli problem. Such a value ofMVcan be consistent with the classical treatment if the new dimensions started sufficiently small. A new possibility is thatbapproaches its stable value from above during inflation. The same conclusions aboutMVmay hold even if inflation is driven by matter fields rather than by the radion. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
To formulate two-dimensional Yang–Mills theory with adjoint matter fields in the large-Nlimit as classical mechanics, we derive a Poisson algebra for the color-invariant observables involving adjoint matter fields. We showed rigorously in Ref. [15] that different quantum orderings of the observables produce essentially the same Poisson algebra. Here we explain, in a less precise but more pedagogical manner, the crucial topological graphical observations underlying the formal proof. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.
