The authors consider the indications for subtotal colectomy in the treatment of diverticulosis and its complications. They show that ileorectal anastomosis leads to no greater morbidity than segmental resections and causes no inconvenience to the patient subsequently.

Children under the age of five may show traumatic dislocation of the hip joint as a result of minimal trauma. The initial treatment should be the mobilization in plaster with the extremity in extension, abduction and external rotation. If the dislocation recurs, surgical exploration of the posterior capsule and repair of the relaxed or torn capsule is recommended.
