摘要:
AbstractI. Black's dating of the Tertiary lavas of Rhum as later than the Tertiary granophyre is accepted, as also his tracing of a fault along the contact of granophyre and Torridonian. This fault is interpreted as part of the Rhum ring‐fault, and a local transition between granophyre and Torridonian arkose is discussed.II. King's discovery of dissimilar contacts on the two sides of a Tertiary basalt dyke cutting Tertiary granophyre in Skye is explained on a mobilisation hypothesi

摘要:
AbstractIn the Dunnerdale Fells, south‐west of Coniston, Lancashire, a succession of tuffs, andesites and rhyolites, over 8,000 ft. thick, forming the lower part of the Borrowdale Volcanic Series, has been mapped. These rocks are overlain with marked unconformity by the Coniston Limestone Series, which dips steeply south‐eastwards and oversteps most of the Borrowdale succession in a south‐westerly direction. The Borrowdale Series is affected by two major periods of earth‐movements, the earlier of pre‐Caradoc and the later of Devonian age. The general dip of the Borrowdale Series is eastwards. It shows little folding but is traversed by large tear‐faults with northerly trend. An important belt of faulting closely follows the outcrop of the Coniston Limestone and includes reversed faults. Both sets of faults appear to be of D

摘要:
AbstractA number of points of interest and controversy in British Permo‐Trias stratigraphy are discussed. Evidence is put forward to suggest that the location of the British area in relation to the poles was very different from that of the present day. The origin of the red colouration in the dune sands is discussed. An attempt is made to reconstruct the outcrop geology of northern England in New Red times, and from this deductions are drawn about the extent of the Zechstein sea. The nature of the false‐bedding in the dune sands is analysed and conclusions are drawn about the extent of the sand sea and the regional pattern of prevailing winds. The relation between false‐bedding and true dip is discussed in an app
