摘要:
Traumatic brain injury is still a rapidly expanding field, particularly in relation to neuropsychiatry. Most current issues remain unresolved. Outcome and the influence of rehabilitation are clear, but prediction remains difficult. Issues under scrutiny are post-concussional syndrome and the validity of complaints after minor traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder and the frequency of psychiatric disorders after traumatic brain injury, and neuropsychopharmacology in both prevention and treatment.

摘要:
In the past year there have been exciting developments in neuropsychiatry regarding frontal lobe functioning as well as advances in understanding the neurobiological basis of consciousness.Transcranial magnetic stimulation has been applied to the study of both of these areas with interesting results. Advances in these areas are discussed.

摘要:
The past year has seen the emergence of a new variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease reported in 10 young people. The probability that transmission of bovine spongiform encephalopathy from contaminated food to humans caused this phenomenon has produced great alarm and much debate. The identification of new mutations for and novel phenotypes of inherited prion disease continues to alert us to the increasing significance of these diseases as causes of neuropsychiatric morbidity.

摘要:
Recent research emphasizes the importance of normal frontal lobe functioning in the expression of freely willed actions.Disorders of the frontal lobes, particularly executive dysfunctions, can serve as mitigating factors in the determination of personal responsibility for criminal actions. Despite this, frontal lobe dysfunctions do not in every case absolve an accused person from the consequences of his or her behavior.
