摘要:
In this paper, we investigate the power of the Kolmogorov‐Smirnov test for negativity of signals in signal detection problems with Brownian motion noise. Strict unbiasedness and admissibility are established. Moreover, taking up an approach of Häjek and Sidäk (1967) for the classical Brownian bridge case, we compute the directional derivative of the power function at the hypothesis, thus obtaining the principal direction of alternatives of the test. As an application, in a hazard rates set‐up, one‐sided Rényi‐tests may be adjusted by choosing their weight function such that they are most sensitive against a prescribed type of alternatives. Finally, we give some numerical and simulati

摘要:
The implications of the probability inequality of Komløs, Major and Tusnády (1975) for the theory of goodness‐of‐fit tests, especially tests based on stochastic integrals with respect to the basic martingale in the random censoring model, are discussed. Choices of the integrand of the stochastic integral which yield highly efficient generalized rank and supremum type tests are given for the simple as well as the composite null hypot

摘要:
This paper illustrates the use of probability models to study properties of voting rules. In particular, a simple occupancy distribution and its limiting Dlrichlet form are introduced, corresponding to simplifying assumptions about voters' preferences. We use as illustrations the occurrence probability of the Condorcet Paradox, a vintage problem in social choice theory, along with the related concept of Condorcet efficiency, a measure of goodness for voting rules. Further examples include properties of a lottery rule and the vulnerability of certain voting rules to strategic manipulation. Prospects for future work are indicated.

摘要:
The performance of a product often depends on several quality characteristics. These characteristics may have interactions. In answering the question “Is the process in control?”, multivariate statistical process control methods take these interactions into account. In this paper, we review several of these multivariate methods and point out where to fill up gaps in the theory. The review includes multivariate control charts, multivariate CUSUM charts, a multivariate MMA chart, and multivariate process capability indices. The most important open question from a practical point of view is how to detect the variables that caused an out‐of‐control signal. Theoretically, the statistical properties of the methods should be investigated more pro

摘要:
Some properties of two goodness‐of‐fit measures are analysed in the case the linear model does not contain a constant term. One measure is proposed by Batten (1987), the other is the squared sample correlation coefficient. In particular, attention is paid to the bias and moments of the measu

摘要:
Statistica Neerlandica encourages the reporting on theses in probability, statistics, biometrics, econometrics, and operations research, submitted to Dutch universities. The main purpose of this section is to inform the reader briefly of the nature, the practical and theoretical importance, the methods used, and the results presented in recent theses. It is understood that contributions to this section meet with the approval of the supervisor(s) of the thesis.Notes (not exceeding 300 words) should be sent to the column editor.
