摘要:
Chemotherapy produces bodily changes that alter individuals' requirements and abilities for self-care action. Disparties between patients' and nurses' perceptions of the chemotherapy experience may result in increased stress for patients during the treatment period. This descriptive study compared patient and nurse preceptions of patients' self-care deficits associated with cancer chemotherapy in an outpatient setting. self-care concepts, preptual theory of behavior, and constructivist methodology were interrelated as a framework for the study. An open-ended, semistructured interview schedule, constructed by the inveistigator, was used to elicit data from 30 patients and their assigned registered nurses. Subjects' verbatim responses were classfied according to the categories of universal self-care requisties developed by Orem. of 122 classfiable responses, 75 were from patients and 47 were from nurses. Patients generally perceived more self-care deficits than did nurses in the categories that included problems with physical side effects of therapy. Nurses perceived Slightly more deficits than patients in relation to the categories that included psychosocial problems. The finding indicated that nurses did not perceive the exent to which patients required assistance, particularly in relation to maintaining a balance between activity and rest.

摘要:
This retropective study examined the degree of pain control as related to the four patient variables: age, living arrangemets, primary cancer site, and compliance with the analgesic regimen. Terminally ill cancer patients were studied (n=96) Of the variables studied, only primary cancer sitte was found to be significantly related to both compliance and pain control achieved as anticipated, the level of analgesics prescribed was significantly related to the degree of pain being exprienced. However, Only 44.8% of the patients studied were compliant with their pain medication regiments. These finding support the need for individualized approaches to pain management among home care patients

摘要:
It is essenital for nurses to identify areas where lack of knowledge, misconceptions and/or attitude contribute to the management of cancer pain. This study examined the influence of an educational program on the attitudes of nurses and their knowledge of analgesia for the person with cancer within the context of allport's definition of attitude and the information-processing theory of learning. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, 52 nurses completed two instrumets Attitude inventory and nursing Analgesia knowledge. The control group (n=20) and expermental group (n=32) completed pre-and pottest instruments. The experimental group attended the educational attitude in ventory pottest scores were significantly higher than those of the control group (p=0.000). Analgesia knowledge posttest scores for the expermental group were sigfincantly higher than those of the control group (p=0.000). These findings emphazied the importance of an educational program on a cancer pain management as a statistically significant correlate of nurses's attuide and knowledge regarding pain management as a statistically sigificant correlate of nurses's attitude and knowledge reagarding pain management in the person with cancer. Implications for nusing include the integration of new nursing infromation with existing goals to initiate a change in attitude that will influence behavior.

摘要:
This descriptive study reports attitudes off 45 Swiss cancer partients about the meaning the illness and its treatment had for them and their families. The research design included a semistructured interview translted into Swiss German by one of the investigators. Cancer was perceived to have deep impact on the daily living of these patients and many of their fa,o;oes. Interviews typically evoked a review of the past and search for causes of their illness, and reflected these patients' various experiences with treatmets. patients' various experiences with trreatments. Patients described five patteerns of coming to terms with the illness and treatment experiences: (a) denying, (b) giving up, (c) resoging, (acepting) and (e) integrating. The findings of this research corrborated earlier studies conducted in Taiwan and Egypt. However, Noteworthy differences were documented amiong the three cultures Clinical and research suggestions are made for Swiss nursing.
