摘要:
Since the ability to make correct sensory judgments can vary substantially from person to person, it is important in the training and selection of inspectors to be able to distinguish among inspectors of differing sensory abilities. A probabilistic procedure was recently suggested for classifying inspectors as“qualified”or“unqualified.”Besides assuming that only two classes of inspectors exist, this procedure assumes that all inspectors within a class have the same sensory abilities. The purpose of the present paper is to extend this classification scheme by relaxing both of these assumptions so as to better account for the variation in inspection error between and within inspector classes.

摘要:
The effect of measurement error on the power of a control chart is examined for the case where both the process average and variance can change. Expressions for the power of theX̄andRcharts are derived. It is shown that if the measurement error is relatively large in comparison to the inherent process error, then the power of theX̄-Rchart is reduced and the sample size should be increased to recover the lost power. The sample size needed to obtain a desired power level can be calculated.

A subset selection rule is considered for selecting the best ofkbinomial populations (as determined by the binomial probability parameter). LetXidenote the number of conforming items in a sample of sizenfrom theithpopulation (success probabilitypi),i= 1,…,k.The rule selects theithpopulation if and only if, where d is a nonnegative integer. Operating characteristics are studied for slippage and equi-spaced parametric configurations. Tables and graphs relating to selection probabilities and expected subset size are presented as well as examples for illustrating their use. Also, a new rule is discussed for selecting populations when bounds on the probability parameters are available.
