摘要:
This is the second part of a two-part paper. The first part dealt with some basic concepts and pitfalls of the analysis of product life data and presented two examples that illustrated the problems of extrapolation. In this part, we discuss problems in dealing with life data from a mixture of product populations, propose some general models for product life and suggest some remedial approaches.

摘要:
The variance associated with a random sample taken from a nonhomogeneous mixture is highly dependent on the degree of nonhomogeneity. In this paper we explore the upper limit on the variance with the aid of optimal control techniques. A specific numerical example using the concepts developed is presented.

摘要:
The problem of coping with inspector error when the inspector error rate is unknown is addressed in this paper. Currently no methods to analyze this problem have appeared in the literature. The results of this research indicate that some plans are definitely superior to others in controlling a specified overall deviation from the design requirements.

摘要:
Various statistical applications require the calculation of compound probabilities but, in many cases, this is complicated by a lack of independence of the individual probabilities. Although an exact analytical solution is not known, problems of this type can often be handled quite effectively by calculating lower and upper bounds for the desired compound probabilities. Bounds for both positively and negatively correlated cases are derived and applied to commonly used statistical acceptance procedures.

摘要:
Prediction intervals provide bounds to contain the results of a future sample, based upon the results of a past sample from the same population. Such intervals are frequently required in quality control. This paper deals with sample size requirements for obtaining a prediction interval to contain a single future observation, and more generally the mean of a future sample, from a normal population. Charts, tables and a numerical example are provided. The extension of the concepts to other situations, such as a prediction interval to containallofkfuture observations and one to contain the standard deviation of a future sample, is indicated.

摘要:
Sampling inspection by variables for percent nonconforming, such as with the use of MIL-STD-414, also provides the data for estimating the population percent nonconforming. A method is provided for obtaining a confidence interval for the population value by means of an operating characteristic curve. This operating characteristic curve arises from the data, and is not that of the original sampling plan.

摘要:
Optimal control strategies for independent and identically distributed fractions defective are derived. It is shown that, under these assumptions, skip-lot strategies as introduced by Dodge and Perry are not optimal. The proof is based on an analysis of the inspection frequency for a skip-lot sampling plan. Without completely specifying a stochastic process, Hsu uses another inspection frequency and consequently obtains results that differ from ours.

摘要:
The United States National Standard ANSI/ASQC Z1.4(1981) is a revised version of the military attributes sampling system MIL-STD-105D. This standard has undergone revisions to modernize terminology and to emphasize the system aspect of the procedure. In addition, it has been made even more compatible with its variables counterpart ANSI/ASQC Z1.9(1980), which was derived from MIL-STD-414. The development and nature of these revisions are described.
