摘要:
Continuous-flow analysers (like the Auto Analyser and its current version SMAC) require individual calibration to verify the shape of their calibration curves, of the amount of sample-to-sample carryover, and of the extent of linear and quadratic time-drift within each sequence of (46) analyses. A sequence of 46 trials, using five calibrating concentrations is given which permits simultaneous estimates of all these attributes of the system.

摘要:
Unexplained process variability is likened to a ghost wandering freely through the plant spooking the process. Plant experimentation is discussed as a tool for investigating this behavior, alleviating it, and providing information for process improvement. Two different plant experimentation approaches are discussed and compared: PLEX (PLant EXperimentation) and EVOP (EVolutionary OPeration). The PLEX approach is illustrated using a recent case study of a plant process. The results aided in reducing variability, increasing capacity, and improving overall profitability in the plant.

摘要:
An approach is developed for the selection of the least cost acceptance sampling plan for cases in which the strength of material or the length of life is controlled and which requires destructive testing. The total cost, consisting of the cost of sampling and testing as well as the cost of the destructed units in the sample is considered and compared for variable sampling plans and for the whole spectrum of possible equivalent compressed and“blown-up”limit gauging sampling plans.

摘要:
A performance variable with a one-sided specification cannot be measured directly, but one or two related variables (called screening variables) can be measured. The screening variables are used to select product in order to raise the proportion of units within specifications from the proportion 7 in the complete population to a specified higher proportion 5 within specifications after screening. Tabulations are given for the situation where the screening variables and the performance variable are jointly normally distributed with known parameter values with final proportionsδ= 0.95, 0.99 and 0.999 of acceptable product desired.

摘要:
The paper, as a sequel to the historical and theoretical approach of Part I, provides the practical information on the matching of variables sampling plans to those in the existing attributes standard. Of the many possible types of matching possible, two types are tabulated here. The first is a match on two points of the OC curve, namely at the AQL and P.10points. The second is a one-point match at the AQL with constant sample size for each Code Letter. The k values obtained in this second method are compared with those of MIL-STD-414.
