摘要:
A mathematical model and on-line computational system have been developed to solve a problem involving placement of inspectors in a multi-stage sequential production process. The model possesses sufficient generality to produce interesting results, yet admits to solution by an efficient algorithm for problems of realistic size. Illustrative computational results are discussed.

The analysis of means (ANOM) is an alternative to the analysis of variance (ANOVA) for examining fixed effects. It was formalized by E. R. Ott and further developed by E. G. Schilling. This paper provides an extended table of factors needed for ANOM for significance levels of 0.10, 0.05, 0.01, and 0.001; numbers of means equal to 3 (1) 1 2 (2) 20, 24, 30, 40, and 60; and degrees of freedom equal tok(1) 20, 24, 30, 40, 60, 120,∞, wherek= the number of means. A comparison of ANOM and ANOVA is made. The use of ANOM for unequal sample sizes is discussed and exemplified.

This paper introduces the concepts of likelihood and likelihood functions and uses these concepts to analyze data from binomial, exponential and Weibull distributions.

The object of this paper is to review and illustrate the concept of statistical tolerancing and the methods which are applicable to assigning component tolerances. The approach is primarily theoretical, but the theory is that which is useful in practice. Tolerancing and statistical tolerancing are discussed generally, but the in-depth discussion is confined to two facets: 1) the problem of ascertaining the distribution of the response of a mechanism for given component tolerance distributions and 2) the problem due to the shifting and drifting of component tolerance distributions.Four methods are reviewed for the first: a) stack tolerancing or linear propagation of errors, b) nonlinear propagation of errors, c) numerical integration or quadrature, and d) Monte Carlo. The types of problems for which each approach is useful, and drawbacks and advantages are given. Each is illustrated by applying it to the sameπ-section attenuator. The details of this application not covered herein are available in the literature. All in all, the theory and application of this facet of statistical tolerancing is in good shape, although there are open problems. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the second facet discussed. The fundamental difficulty is that this problem has not yet been well posed in a theoretical manner applicable in practice. The problem encountered may be the principal reason why statistical tolerancing has not flourished in manufacturing. It also is the part of tolerancing which interfaces most strongly with quality control. The several attacks known to the author are reviewed.Because of its length this paper will be published in three parts in successive issues. Part I lays the groundwork. Part II reviews the four methods mentioned above, and Part III reviews the other facets mentioned and concludes the paper.

In situations where the cost of sampling is high, sequential procedures may be used to reduce this cost. However, many of these procedures have a number of undesirable drawbacks, such as the possibility that an extremely large sample size may be needed before a decision is reached.This paper illustrates the use of a sequential t-test which is truncated and has other desirable features. Several examples, along with tables of the critical values and comparisons with other types of t-tests are provided.

摘要:
A new addition to the family of Quality System specifications shows its precocity by being more advanced than its predecessors. The certification program spreads the role of quality control from the design conception through the final product perhaps more thoroughly than in any previous system specification. It also incorporates the Quality Control System Plan as part of the FAA contract award, a step not taken under MIL-Q-9858A where only that specification is referenced in the contract. The new Advisory Circular extends the system found successful in achieving flight safety to air traffic control, navigational aids, and ground support equipment and systems.
