摘要:
Narrow limit gauging combines the ease of attributes inspection with the power of variables sampling to reduce sample size. Tables of narrow limit plans that have two fixed points on the operating characteristic curve and are optimal in terms of minimum sample size are presented. Tables of narrow limit plans matched to the MIL-STD-105D tightened, normal, and reduced attributes plans are also given. These narrow limit plans, when substituted in the MIL-STD-105D system and used with the switching rules, provide a further reduction in sample size.

摘要:
Two production models are presented for maintaining current control of an industrial process subject to a multiplicity of assignable causes. The formulated cost function includes the cost of inspection, charting, downtime, search for assignable cause, repair, and defective items. Two models are formulated. The first model allows for shutting down the process during the search for the assignable cause. The second assumes that the process is allowed to continue in operation during the search for the assignable cause. Computer search procedures were used to find the optimal sample size, acceptance number, and intersample interval that minimize the formulated cost functions. The article shows that the complex multiple cause model can be well approximated by a“matched”single cause model. Ten numerical examples show how the formulated models can be applied.

摘要:
Quality control applications sometimes require one to obtain tolerance intervals for Poisson or binomial variables. Situations of this type are described and the construction of the desired interval is shown. This involves the combination of probability intervals and confidence intervals.

摘要:
Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is often used in quality control studies. It assumes equal variabilities within groups, and no exact procedures have been available for cases with unequal variabilities. In this paper exact procedures are given and illustrated. An indication of the losses to be incurred by using the traditional F test when variances are unequal is given.

摘要:
A procedure for pooling data from two or more independent normal populations is presented. This pooling procedure uses the analysis of means. Graphical analysis of experimental data using the analysis of means is employed to provide convenient translation of statistical conclusions into usable information.

摘要:
This paper examines a Bayesian rule recently suggested for the classification of inspectors in sensory tests. The rule is presented and shown to be equivalent to a Bayesian hypothesis testing procedure, which aids in the interpretation of the rule. The rule is then improved upon by making fuller use of available sample data. Finally, an extension to the case of unknown error probabilities within inspector classes is briefly described.

摘要:
Principal components and factor analysis are two techniques that are finding increasing application among quality engineers who are concerned with processes with more than one response variable. In this third and concluding part of a three-part series, the technique of factor analysis is presented and compared with principal components to show its similarities and differences.

摘要:
The civilian versions of the military variables acceptance sampling system MlL-STD-414 are United States national standard ANSI/ASQC Z1.9(1980) and the international standard ISO 3951(1980). Both these standards have undergone revision to make them compatible with the military attributes sampling standard MIL-STD-105D and its equivalent commercial versions ANSI Z1.4(1971) and ISO 2859(1974). This resolves disparities introduced in 1963 when the MIL-STD-105D tables and procedures were changed from those in previous versions of that standard. This paper details the development and nature of the revisions and describes the amended standards.

摘要:
A computer program is presented for running the Kolmogorov-Smirnov two-sample test. The algorithms are based on Korolyuk's graphic path counting method and compute the descriptive level of significance for both one- and two-sided alteratives.
