摘要:
A new process control chart, designated thesimultaneous control chart, is introduced. Through the use of resistant measures and a modified box plot display, this single chart controls the process level and variability and also supplies information about the process distribution and specifications. It is argued that the simultaneous control chart provides more effective information for decision making thanx̄andRcharts since it is (1) more robust against distributional assumption violations and (2) more transparent to the nonstatistical user.

Amixture experimentis one in which the response depends only on the proportions of the components present in the mixture and not on the total amount of the components. Experimenters often satisfy this definitional requirement by fixing (holding constant) the total amount of the components. Amixture-amount experiment, on the other hand, is one in which the amount of the mixture varies, and hence the response may depend on the amount of the mixture as well as on the proportions of the components present in the mixture. Piepel and Cornell (1985) have discussed models for mixture-amount experiments. In this article we present and discuss ways to generate complete and fractional designs for both unconstrained and constrained mixture-amount experiments. The designs presented are also applicable to mixture-process variable experiments involving one process variable. Several examples are utilized to illustrate the design development techniques discussed.

Repeatability and reproducibility are usually defined by the relationR=k√2sR, whereRstands for repeatability or reproducibility, andsRis the corresponding standard deviation. It is then stated that the probability is C that a difference between two test results will lie between (−R) and (+R). ForC= 0.95, which is the usual choice, the values that have been proposed for the multiplierkare 1.96, 2, or Student'st.However, C is actually a random variable with a highly skewed distribution. It is shown that regardless of the above choice ofk, the probability that C will lie in the“vicinity of 0.95,”such as for example 0.92 to 0.97, is very small, unless the number of participating laboratories is large (30 or more). Nevertheless, for any given interval defining a“vicinity of 0.95,”a value ofkexists that maximizes the probability that C lies in that interval. For a number of reasonable choices for“vicinity of 0.95”the optimalkis close to 1.96.

摘要:
The minimum sum of absolute errors MSAE regression is resistant to outliers and error distributions with long tails. It also provides a good starting solution for certain robust regression procedures. A number of efficient algorithms and computer codes have been developed for the MSAE regression. Computer programs have also been included in two major statistical packages. Small sample properties as well as asymptotic distributional results and inferential procedures for the MSAE estimator are now available. Our objective in this paper is to briefly summarize the current state-of-the-art for the MSAE regression.

This paper presents a model which can be used to determine the Average Outgoing Quality for a product which has multiple quality characteristics and which is subjected to multiple 100% inspections where the inspection is subject to errors. It allows the specification of both type I and type ll inspection errors. The model can also be used to determine, in such cases, the minimum number of times a lot must be subjected to 100% inspection in order to meet a desired outgoing quality goal.

A computationally convenient expression is found for the average outgoing quality (AOQ) in the situation where a product is subjected to multiple 100% inspections, each item possesses several characteristics that are to be inspected, the two types of inspection errors depend on the particular characteristic but not on the inspector, and an item is classified as nonconforming if any of its characteristics are classified as nonconforming. Programs in FORTRAN and in BASIC that perform the necessary computations are provided. It is also shown that the logarithm of the AOQ afterninspections is a linear function ofn, and the rate of decrease depends only on the two types of errors associated with classifying an item as conforming or nonconforming.
