AbstractSymmetric cleavage of cyclic compounds into identical fission products is introduced as a generally applicable method for synthesis. The usefulness of this approach in the field of fluorine chemistry is discussed and illustrated with representative examples. AbstractThe synthesis and properties of the novel pentafluorosulfur peroxides, SF5OOH, SF5OOF and SF5OOCl are described. The hydroperoxide obtained by the hydrolysis of SF5OOC(O)F is the parent compound of this series and the halogen derivatives are obtained by reactions with fluorine and chlorine monofluoride. The preparation of SF5OOF results in the formation of another unstable compound, believed to be SF5OOOSF5.The vibrational spectra of SF5OOX and the related SF5OX (X = H,Cl,F) are analyzed in a consistent manner by assigning the most intense Raman band to the symmetric SF4square stretching mode. Previous assignments for pentafluorosulfur peroxides had assigned the most intense band to the O‐O stretc

AbstractRaman spectra are reported for (i) complexes of xenon hexafluoride with the fluoride‐ion acceptors BF3, PdF4, PF5, AsF5, RuF5, PtF5, and AuF5, and (ii) for solutions of xenon hexafluoride in HF and in WF6. Vibrational assignments are made for the cations XeF+5and Xe2F+11, and evoke a normal coordinate analysis for XeF+5. AbstractCarbonyl fluoride adds to arylmethanonitriles in the presence of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and alkali metal fluorides to produce the corresponding aryldifluoromethyl isocyanates. The aryldifluoromethyl isocyanates react with two additional moles of arylmethanonitrile to yield aryltrifluoromethanes and 2‐hydroxy‐4, 6‐diaryl‐s‐triazines. Alkali metal fluorides also enhance this reaction and suppress the formation of 2, 4, 6‐triaryl‐s‐triazines. With electron‐withdrawing substituents on the aromatic ring, the reactions do not yield any significant quantity of the aryltrifluoromethanes, but stop at the aryldifluoromethyl

AbstractHexafluorobenzene reacts with N[Sn(CH3)3]3to give C6F5N[Sn(CH3)3]2. Better yields of this compound were obtained either starting from C6F5NH2and treating this with Li‐butyl and (CH3)3SnCl or reacting C6F5NSO with N[Sn(CH3)3]3. A byproduct of the reaction with C6F5NH2is C6F5NHSn(CH3)3. The cleavage of the tin‐nitrogen bond in C6F5N[Sn(CH3)3]2was achieved with the anhydrides (CF3C(O))2O and (CF3SO2)2O resulting in the following products: C6F5NC(O)CF3Sn(CH3)3, C6F5NSO2CF3Sn(CH3)3and C6F5N(SO2CF3)2. AbstractA series of spirophosphoranes, [C6H4O2][OC(CF3)2C(CF3)2O]‐PR (R = F, Me, Bu1, Ph, and OMe) containing the catechol and perfluoropinacolyl ring system have been prepared.
