AbstractReaction of chlorotrifluoroethylene with caesium fluoride in tetraglyme gives CF3CFCl2and higher molecular weight compounds which do not contain chlorine, C8F16, C10F18, C12F22, etc. The mechanism of this process, including the production of additional unsaturated sites, is discussed. Chlorotrifluoroethylene also reacts with perfluorobut‐2‐ene, giving mainly C6F12, C8F16and C10F18, and with C8F16, giving mainly C10F18, C12F22and C14F24. AbstractHückel integral parameters were evaluated for F and Cl by fitting calculated to observed heats of atomization. With these, empirical C‐F and C‐Cl bond energy terms were obtained from Hückel calculations on a set of 34 halogen‐substituted acyclics. The effect of fluorine substitution on the resonance energy per π electron (REPE) of cyclic compounds was then examined.
