AbstractWhen a reaction of the type A ⇋ 2B (I) is accompanied by a parallel, autocatalytic reaction A + B ⇋ 3B (II), the expression for the reciprocal relaxation time contains one concentration‐independent term, derived from reaction (I) in the forward direction, and two terms linear in [B], one derived from reaction (I) in the reverse direction, and one derived from reaction (II) in the forward direction (in addition to a quadratic term). In such a case, the equilibrium constant for the reaction cannot be determined from relaxation experiments. AbstractThe angular distribution of reactively scattered molecules is discussed in terms of a classical optical model. The deflection in a reactive scattering is considered, for direct reactions, as the sum of an initial and final deflection. The formal validation of this approach is discussed with a distorted wave approach and within a more general, reaction matrix formulation.

AbstractThe application of a low energy pulsed nitrogen laser as a fast excitation source in photochemistry is described. The experimental problems concerning detection of transients by absorption spectroscopy are discussed. The instrument is applied to the measurement of the absorption spectrum curve of coronene in its lowest excited singlet state.

AbstractCommercial K chlorophyllin from three different manufacturers was studied by IR spectroscopy. All samples contained some keto form of chlorophyllin. AbstractAn improved wet combustion procedure for the determination of sulphur in cellulosic fabrics was developed. The method, which consists of replacing the nitric acid normally used, by hydrochloric acid, yields improved recovery of the sulfur and good precision in the classical gravimetric determination of barium sulfate. Phosphorus and aluminium when present in these fabrics do not interfere.

AbstractThe behavior of some proteohormones as mixtures of FSH and LH at different proportions and purity was studied by polarography. Proteins which contain groups of ‐SH and/or ‐S‐S‐, develop in an ammoniacal buffer of CoIIor CoIIIsalts a typical double wave, which is believed to be a catalytic wave of hydrogen evolution. It is called a Brdicka double wave. It depends on various parameters such as concentration of the protein, pH, buffer capacity, temperature, height of mercury current, etc. The influence of changing the various parameters on the height of the wave and on the potential of the maximum of the wave height was studied. Comparison was made among the various hormones and with the simple protein human albumin. The measurements were performed by direct current and alternating current polarography.
