AbstractThe integral heat evolved on swelling of the anion exchange resin Dowex‐1 in chloride and perchlorate forms in water, methanol, ethanol, n‐propanol, acetone and formamide, and in aqueous mixtures of these solvents, was measured calorimetrically as a function of the cross‐linking of the resin (4,8 and 16% DVB) and the solvent composition. Heats of swelling (wetting) of the resin skeleton were also measured. These were found to be negligible compared with the heats of swelling of the exchangers which were in the range of 4–8 kcal/equiv. resin for the chloride form with water, methanol, ethanol and formamide, or their aqueous mixtures, but considerably smaller for the chloride form and solvents rich in propanol or acetone as well as for the perchlorate form. The heats of solution of the monomer analog, benzyltrimethylammonium chloride were found to be endothermic. AbstractThe transformation of the blue color of bentonite‐benzidine pastes to green or yellow‐green upon air drying was studied by means of reflectance measurements and by comparison of the samples under study with color charts. The relative amounts of benzidine and bentonite and the relative humidity had a decisive effect on the color of the air dried films. Hygroscopic compounds such as LiCl and CaCl2produced results similar to that produced by increasing the relative humidity. 摘要:
AbstractThermally stable polyamides were prepared by reaction of aromatic diamines with pyrrolidone dicarboxylic acids obtained by reaction of itaconic acid with aromatic diamines. The reaction was carried out either by melt poly‐condensation or by converting the diacids to their active mixed anhydrides and reacting them with the diamines. Polybenzimidazoles were prepared by melt polymerization of the pyrrolidone dicarboxylic acids with 3,3′‐diamino‐benzidine. All the polymers were soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid and part of them were also partially soluble in DMF or DMSO. DTA and TGA measurements in air showed that the polyamides were stable up to about 400° and the polybenzimidazoles were stable
