AbstractA suggestion is given of how to prove main and interaction effects in two‐way layouts independent of each other even if the data are just ordinally scaled. Starting from HILDEBRAND'S (1980a, b) non‐parametric approach which presupposes interval‐scaled data, transformations of ranks are settled before analysis per analogy to theH‐test takes place. That is, the same formula of an asymptoticallyX2‐distributed test‐statistic results but mean ranks are used instead of mean scores in order to partialize, for instance, main effects while testing interaction effect. AbstractOne of factor analysis techniques, viz. the principal components method, and the proportional hazards regression model (Cox, 1972) are applied in this work to study the significance of various factors characterizing the patient, the disease, and the method of treatment in the survival. The application of these methods to analysis of survival data for cervical cancer patients has shown, in particular, the tumor growth rate to be the crucial factor in distribution of the patients survival time and to be even more important than the therapy characteristics.

AbstractIn otological and ophthalmological functional diagnostics it is typical to record for a certain individual several similar biopotentials under different conditions of stimulation and/or to collect various potentials for the same individual.Since the combination of these different data collected from a patient is of interest, coupling of the classification results obtained for each single data set seems desirable.Based on sample classifiers, obtained by linear discriminance analysis, of acoustically or visually evoked potentials from selected patients an algorithm is proposed for their coupling, which logically links the various rules of allocation and is based on the principle of assignment by highest likelihood.Furthermore, the procedure may be modified by inclusion of corresponding confidence intervals for the determined allocation frequencies.The results obtained for the groups of patients investigated show a considerable improvement of classification as judged from the error rates being distinctly reduced after the coupling.

AbstractIn this paper a procedure SANOVA of simultaneous testing hypotheses is compared with others used in analysis of variance in a fixed linear model. The geometrical relation between SANOVA and Scheffé's confidence regions is discussed. It is shown that individual confidence intervals from SANOVA procedure are not longer than Scheffe's, Dunnett's and Tukey's ones. The cases, when they are the same are indicated. Theoretical considerations are illustrated by a practical example

AbstractIn this paper we treat linear calibration of multivariate chemical measurement instruments. Two new calibration methods for multicollinear spectral data are proposed. The methods are compared with established predictors on a set of data. The data consists of measurements of fat in fish meat and near infrared (NIR) reflectance measurements. The new methods give improvements compared with the established ones.
