摘要:
AbstractAssuming that some explicit functional relationship acts as a mathematical model we consider the case that we are given a finite set of hypercuboids, each of which contains at least one point of the true functional relationship with a certain given probability. We present a procedure to construct sets for the unknown parameters and probabilities for the event that those contain the true parameter value. The procedure is illustrated by an example from pharmaceutical technology.

摘要:
AbstractThe present paper discusses some probability problems in epidemiology in which a community is divided into two parts by means of the binomial damage model. The community sizeNis an integer‐valued random v̀ariable andpdenotes the incidence rate of a certain disease such that conditional onN=n, the numberBof infected individuals in the community follows a binomial distribution with parametersnandp.LetCdenote the number of the susceptibles, whereB + C=N.Probabilities are found of the events, such as, only half the community is hit by the disease, or there arenmore susceptibles than are infected forn=0, 1, 2,…, or the susceptibles exceed the infected, or the susceptibles exceed (m‐1) times the number of infected individuals form= 2, 3,…, etc. These probabilities play an useful role when a public health official wishes to ascertain that only a given proportion 1/mof the community is infected with the disease. Only the cases when the community sizeNfollows the geometric, negative binomial or FISHER'S logarithmic series distributions are considered with the mathematics being ma

摘要:
AbstractThe importance of the starting point for iterative robust regression is well known since the ordinary least square solution often used doesn't always give good results. We suggest a new method called “regression by the sectors” (RPS) as a starting point to an iterative windsorisation of the original data (ITER).We used artificial samples to compare RPS and other quick techniques of fit: regression by median, Hinich‐Talwar's method, L1norm minimization. Besides RPS‐ITER algorithm is tested (examples and simulations) in relation to algorithms using different starting points associated to ITER.The results show the superiority of R

摘要:
AbstractMaximum Likelihood Estimation of order and treatment effects are derived for Binomial Crossover Designs. All estimators and estimated covariance and variances have closed forms and can be easily evaluated. These results are useful for use in multi‐center clinical trial

摘要:
AbstractThe paper presents a new methodology for evaluating the performance of a forecasting model. The evaluation‐criterion utilizes a “credibility interval” centered at the model prediction. Given predicted and observed values, the length of the “credibility interval” is increased (or decreased) according as an observed value of the dependent random variable falls out of (or into) the interval. Based on that, various ways of assessing the rating of the model are discussed and illustrative examples

摘要:
AbstractMahalanobis—like distance indicesB2andG2of BALAKRISHNAN and SANGHVI (1968) are employed to compare multinomial populations of proportions in human data. Recently, BOWERING and MISRA (1982) employed these methods, with modifications, in a different field viz. to compare fish stocks, based on meristic characters. The method of BALAKRISHNAN and SANGHVI (1968), however, assumes equality of covariance matrices, which is doubtful with multinomial populations of proportions. In this paper a statistical method for comparing such populations (where covariance matrices are not equal) is presented. Also, a feature of theG2method of BALAKRISHNAN and SANGHVI (1968) is discussed, which makes its statistical status a little more clea

摘要:
AbstractApplications of methods of discriminant analysis are considered for normal distributions with common or differing variances and for distributions of unknown type, and an example is given. Results are discussed with respect to available programs, and the different methods of discriminant analysis are compared.
