摘要:
AbstractThe maximal linear predictable combination of a set of dependent variables is defined as that linear combination maximizing the multiple correlation coefficient with the predictor set. It allows the relative importance of a number of factors to be evaluated for the joint response, rather than for the response of each dependent variable in turn. The procedure is illustrated by an example.AMS subject classification: major 62J10, 62H20; minor 62H25.

摘要:
AbstractThe present study begins with a discussion of a topic frequently mentioned in the relevant literature, namely the division of multiple regression models with two predictors into five mutually excluding categories. The theoretical basis for this classification is criticized and a system of three mutually excluding categories is suggested which is free of the criticized inconsistencies.

AbstractPowers of some tests of equality of two proportions are compared for small samples and approximate level .05. Numerical results indicate that the asymptotic results hold also for small and moderate sample sizes.

摘要:
AbstractBy using Monte Carlo studies, this paper compares the Welch test, the James test and the Brown‐Forsythe test for comparing several means under heteroscedasticity. It appears that all the tests are quite robust with respect to departure from normality. The Brown‐Forsythe test is at least as good as the James test and the Welch test; but the differences are so small that the choice is immaterial for practical purpo

摘要:
AbstractIn this paper, by combining the harmonic mean approach with the Welch and the James procedure (see WELCH 1951, JAMES, 1951), we develop some robust procedures for testing parallelism in several straight lines under heteroscedasticity and nonnormality. Through Monte Carlo simulations it is shown that these new tests are quite robust with respect to departure from normality. For small sample sizes, however, the TAN‐TABATABAI (1984)FβandF*βtests appear to be more powerful than the new tests, although when sample sizes are not small, there are hardly any differences between the Tan‐TabatabaiFβandF*βtests and the ne

摘要:
AbstractThe procedures currently used for testing the bioequivalence of two drug formulations achieve control over the error probability of erroneously accepting bioequivalence or over the probability of erroneous rejection, but not over both error probabilities. A two‐stage procedure that rectifies this drawback is presented, assuming that the performance of the drug is characterized by a normally distributed variat

摘要:
AbstractIn a three way contingency table two multivariate tests for homogeneity have been proposed by the author (1983) a the “catanova” test, which is a trace “metric” test and b the “multinova” test which is determinant based. Both tests are asymptotically distributed as chi‐square. In this paper, the power values of the tests are compared and conditions are given for preference
