AbstractThe quality of ordered categorical recordings is determined from repeated measurements on the same subject in order to assess the level of agreement between raters, scales or occasions. The presented rating‐invariant method for ordered categorical data provides means of analysing the quality of single‐item rating scales, irrespective of the number of possible response values and the marginal distributions. Marginal heterogeneity implies systematic disagreement, so‐called bias. An augmented ranking approach is the basis for the separation of inter‐rater disagreement into systematic and random components. Correlation between pairs of augmented rank values provides a measure of agreement to the best common ordering of paired classifications, given inter‐rater bias. 摘要:
AbstractA two stage without replacement strategy is proposed for estimating the population mean of overlapping clusters of contacts of tuberculosis cases. This sampling strategy is an improvement over the two sampling strategies proposed by SINGH (1988). A numerical illustration is provided by taking two populations of tuberculosis contacts from New York City; the percentage gain in efficiency varies from 3.70 to 24.99. The proposed improved sampling strategy may be useful to other contagious diseases in the different fields of biomedical sciences or similar situations in other fields.

AbstractEmphasizing that model development should be in accordance with the context under consideration, a model for plant nitrogen uptake is developed for use in connection with soil nitrogen models. The aim of the modeling is to improve the accuracy in model simulations of plant nitrogen uptake by application of optimization theory and apriori information of plant nitrogen content. A simple soil nitrogen model is coupled to the plant nitrogen uptake model, and solutions, obtained by two different methods, are presented. Suggestion for how to use the modeling principles in connection with a more complex plant nitrogen uptake model, and apriori information of plant dry weight, is given. It is believed that the modeling principles can also be used on other types of dynamic models with given apriori information.

AbstractBy treating the nonlinear model as if it were linear in the parameterization θ in the neighbourhood of the least squares estimate θC, two‐sided nominally‐q‐prediction intervals can be constructed by applying the usual linear model theory. AbstractWell‐known allometric model is critically reviewed for determining the length‐weight relationship. Procedure to be followed for applying this model under the assumption of multiplicative as well as additive error is discussed. The possibility of autocorrelations in error term is explored.
