摘要:
AbstractIn this article a test for the comparison ofKgroups of independent profiles is suggested. It is based on rank tests, in which the criterion is obtained by using a suitably chosen ordinal classification function. This function represents a specific view on the profiles. The test, which is easy to use, can be regarded as a generalisation of other well known tests and can be applied within a variety of situations. The relationships to other procedures for the analysis of profiles are described. Some properties are discussed.

摘要:
AbstractData fromgenefrequency perturbation experiments are being used to resolve the selectionistneutralist debate over the evolutionary significance of electrophoretic enzyme variation. Previous statistical analyses of such data have encountered the major difficulty that the effective population size is not known. In this article, we give the statistical theory for fitting various selection models, and we evaluate the known asymptotic results by simulation. We also show that there is further information in data from these experiments besides the estimates of the selection parameters, namely estimates of the bounds for the effective population sizes.

摘要:
AbstractScheffe's confidence intervals for linear functions of some subvectors of a vector of parameters are presented. The considered subvectors are such that covariance matrices of their estimators are known non‐negative definite matrices multiplied by unknown positive constants. This property is characteristic of the least squares estimators of vectors of main and interaction effects in the analysis of covariance models of the following experimental designs: split‐block, split‐plot, completely randomized two‐factor design and randomized complete block design. The formulas for confidence intervals for linear functions of vectors of main or interaction effects in the designs mentioned above are given in the paper. The practical example is given as an illus

摘要:
AbstractFor factorial experiments with unbalanced data the method of unweighted means is an alternate method of analysis which is computationally simpler than likelihood ratio basedF‐tests. The quality of the null approximation to theF‐distribution of the statistic for the method of unweighted means and the power of this test relative to the likelihood ratio test are discussed. Recommendations are made of when in the course of data analysis the superior operating characteristics of the likelihood ratio test may not outweigh the computational simplicity of the method of unweighted means t

摘要:
AbstractBy transforming dichotomous characters (for instance the presence or absence of a certain disease) to zero‐one characters it is possible to estimate the variance and variance components. This paper explains the peculiarities occurring in the linear model and estimation functions and the application of the method for heritability estimatio

摘要:
AbstractTo estimate the correct classification rate of a classifier, many different methods exist (test sample, bootstrap, cross validation). The test sample is a method with very small expense. Sometimes, only a small number of objects is available (seldom diseases, high costs for experiments). When we split the sample in training set and test set, we get good or bad fidelity estimations but, unfortunately, vice versa a big or small confidence interval for the estimation. Overcoming this dilemma is only possible for simple classifiers. Such a simple classifier is investigated and a direct fidelity estimation is proposed.

摘要:
AbstractA procedure for selecting the better of two treatments which allows for the possibility of non‐selection when the treatments appear to be equivalent (that is, similar) is presented. The proposed procedure is a modification of the indifference zone approach. It is assumed that the treatments are compared with respect to a continuous response variable, which has a normal or a two‐parameter exponential distribution. For the normal distribution, each of the parameters is considered as the ranking parameter. For the two‐parameter exponential distribution, the guarantee time (location parameter) is the ranking parameter. The values of the estimates of the ranking parameters and the observed distance between these estimates are used in this selection proc
