摘要:
Summary1) The introduction of Allen’s correction into Reddy’s modified method obviously increases its value as shown by many experimental data.2) Through the use of this correction it is shown that many of Reddy’s various procedures loose their interest. Only the modification which consists to carry the Porter and Silber reaction in a less acid medium (sulfuric acid20N) at room temperature during 12–18 hours, deserves to be introduced into the method of dosage. This modification has indeed the advantage of practically equalizing the optical densities of the four main urinary corticoids depicted by the Porter and Silber reaction.3) Comparison of the results yielded by the methods of Reddy and of Glenn and Nelson on one hand and that of Norymberski on the other, further stresses the advantage of Reddy’s modified procedure, owing particularly to its remarkable simplicity. In this laboratory one technician is able to carry out 18 determinations within half a day.

摘要:
SummaryThe introduction of Allen’s correction greatly increases the value of Reddy’s modified method in the clinical appraisal of adrenocortical function.1) The use of the advocated correction considerably improves the stability of the value of the amount of steroid excreted by a given individual. It also decreases the scattering of the values obtained in normal adults. It was further shown that there is a close relationship between diuresis and urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroids concentration.2) The interest of the determination of these corticoids after adrenocortical stimulation induced by ACTH administration is particularly shown by its comparison with the eosinopenic effect. If however this reaction reaches or exceeds 50 p. cent within 8 hours, it is highly probable that the adrenal cortex will respond to ACTH administration by an increased hormonal output. For the quantitative appraisal of this hypersecretion it is necessary to inject ACTH into the vein. The standard procedure is to give 20–25 international units in a 6–8 hours intravenous drip.

摘要:
SummaryChanges in the excretion of Periston N by the kidney were studied with the unpublished method of Fergus and Levy, as modified by Zipf.In normal individuals the total amount of the injected Periston N is excreted within 24 hours folowing a typical excretion curve. In various diseases (infections, cardiac diseases, drug intoxications, hepatitides, renal diseases) a retention or a slowing of the excretion of Periston N were observed. In some cases, Periston N seems to have influenced the course of the disease although renal failure was not influenced. The renal excretion of Periston N seems to rely on at least three factors : the state of the circulation, some changes in blood chemistry and the renal function. The interpretation of the results needs an accurate evaluation of these various functions.

摘要:
SummaryTarget cell characteristics in thalassemia are described. This abnormal red cell may be seen in other diseases than thalassemia and can be acquired.Hyperbilirubinemia can be a factor favouring the apparition of this abnormality. Other important factors are macrocytosis of medullary origin in liver parenchymatous diseases, and red cell hypochromia.Clinical cases illustrate these theoretical considerations.Red cell diameter measurement and search for target cells are valuable tools in diagnosis of liver disease.
