摘要:
SummaryPartial hepatectomy in the rat is followed by a rapid regeneration of the liver. After 7 days the normal weight of this organ is almost reached. The composition of the regenerated liver is comparable to that of normal hepatic tissue (Na, K, Ph, proteins, lipids, dry weight). This regeneration is more active if the part of the liver which has been exstirpated is cut in small pieces and introduced immediately after the operation into the abdominal cavity.

摘要:
SummaryWhen cortisone is administered before, during or following a cirrhogenic dose of carbon tetrachloride, it enhances, precipitates or inhibits the cirrhogenic process according to the time of hormonal treatment. With the first schedule, it can induce necrotic hepatitis. In the second procedure, it enhances the growth of connective tissue. Finally, when cortisone administration follows the hepatotoxic exposure, it hinders the cirrhogenic process. This last action of cortisone seems to be due to its effect on ground substance metabolism.

摘要:
SummaryExperiment and pathology have shown that cortisone treatment induces anterior pituitary inhibition and adrenocortical involution. The clinical and biological manifestations of this phenomenon have been searched for in patients presenting hyperadrenocorticism (adrenogenital, Cushing or Achard-Thiers syndromes), also in cases of bronchial asthma, periarteritis nodosa or rheumatoid arthritis treated with cortisone.Adrenocortical activity was shown to be inhibited in each of its aspects. A lowering of blood pressure in 3 patients presenting hyperadrenocorticism and hypertension indicates the inhibiting effect of hormone therapy on corti- coid secretion regulating scdium metabolism. Inhibition of the hyperglycemic function of the adrenal cortex is demonstrated by a reduction of blood glucose and by an increase of glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity.Regression of virilism and decrease in 17-k.s. excretion emphasize the effect on androgenic function.Inhibition of the pituitary-adrenocortical axis sometimes leads to fatal accidents; one case is described. The paradoxal improvement noted in some cases of steroid diabetes treated with cortisone suggests that such a treatment could-be used to evaluate the role played by enhanced adrenocortical secretion in the genesis of some diabetic states.

摘要:
SummaryA few considerations are evoked on the role of nitrogen metabolism imbalance in neurological manifestations associated with liver disease, as seen in hepatic coma and hepato-lenticular degeneration.Related to this problem is the study of the possible modes of action of ammoniac compounds which are prone to induce the symptomatology of hepatic coma in some cirrhotic patients. After comprehensive study of actually known facts about hepato-lenticular degeneration, emerges the conclusion that the nervous and hepatic changes are not directly correlated.

摘要:
SummaryIt is generally admitted that 30 % of diabetic patients show retinal changes. These are first venous microaneurysms. Later, haemorrhages and exsudates appear. These changes arc not thought to be specifically diabetic, although they are quite distinct from hypertensive changes. Nevertheless, most observ- ators correlate diabetic retinopathy with vascular changes shown in coronary, peripheral and renal vasculatures. We have not been able to find such a relation in our cases, except for renal lesions.Capillary fragility has been studied in some diabetic patients with retinopathy. Capillary fragility was increased in eight. This point should he reinvestigated in a larger group of diabetic patients. In some apparently normal individuals, routine ophthalmoscopy has shown diabetic retinal changes. All these patients show a decreased glucose tolerance curve.
