摘要:
Most travelers tend to be tolerant of or oblivious to short travel delay whether it is expected (a result of recurring congestion) or unexpected (a result of nonrecurring congestion). In contrast, long travel delay is disproportionately burdensome, especially if it is unexpected. Thus, the disutility of travel delay, as subjectively assessed by the typical traveler, is nonlinear.

Maps are critical for pathfinding, for vehicle location, and many other applications, but most importantly as a medium for communication of myriad facts. 摘要:
This paper describes the complete hardware and software design of a new automatic vehicle identification (AVI) system for use on multi-lane roads and where the traffic lane disciplines are not always complied with. The system employs the randomized time division multiplexing (TDM) technique for avoiding collisions of signals transmitted from several vehicles coexisting in a wide angle detection zone of 90°× 83°× 20 m. Experiments carried out in a fully furnished teaching laboratory show an error free detection for the two-way communication between the toll-site AVI equipment and the identification tag at a IMbit/s data rate.

摘要:
This paper documents the assessment of the information requirements for the development of an Integrated Transit/Traffic Management and Traveler Information System. The identification of information requirements represents one of several phases of the information gathering process which was necessary to evaluate the suitability of available technologies, IVHS elements, and architectures for the design of an operational test of the integration of transit and traffic management and traveler information system. The integration design includes the automated transfer of operations and management information between agencies and to the public in order to realize efficiencies in the transportation network.

摘要:
“Intelligent Cruise Control” (ICC) is one of the PROMETHEUS systems for which short-term implementation has been suggested. The German PRO-GEN Group has worked intensively on the development and evaluation of ICC during the last few years. The functions of ICC have been specified in cooperation with the automotive industry concerned. The system has been assessed in terms of traffic safety, transport efficiency and environmental pollution, based on microscopic traffic simulations. The assessment results show considerable safety benefits, whereas the decrease in transport efficiency is negligible.

摘要:
Automatic vehicle identification (AVI) was first introduced in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. However, in spite of several successful tests, AVI systems were not widely implemented. Now there is a resurgence of interest in AVI, both because of recent technological advances and because of the important role that AVI plays in integrated intelligent vehicle highway systems (IVHS). This paper reviews different AVI technologies and their functional capabilities. In particular, it describes different generic AVI systems, their characteristics, and how AVI technology can be and has been applied to toll/revenue collection, access control, surveillance, and fleet management.
