摘要:
A Multilane Electronic Toll Collection system has been implemented in Thessaloniki, Greece in the framework of DRIVE II Project ADEPT (Automatic Debiting and Electronic Payment for Transport) (1992-1995). This pilot implementation is based on two-way 5.8 MHz microwave communication between roadside equipment, and in-vehicle transponder and smart card. The electronic system consists mainly of three modules, namely, the multilane debiting system in which electronic payment takes place in a multilane and free-flow speed conditions, video enforcement system which performs checking and payment verification, and finally a control center which co-ordinates all the functionalities and provides overall control of the system. The evaluation results showed that the electronic system is very successful and proved that the system is feasible from both technical and economic aspects.

摘要:
For Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) to be a reality, a communication system, which can provide reliable communication capability in mobile environment, is needed. A cellular system capable of supporting data traffic, can satisfy many of the IVHS communication requirements; such as traveller information and traffic management, public transit monitoring and control, fleet management, truck monitoring, hazard and collision warning.

摘要:
Pros and cons of various mature Automated Highway Systems (AHS) have been a subject of intense study. However, such discussions are nothing but intellectual exercises unless the issue of how to evolve, in a planned and managed fashion, the current highway systems towards these mature AHS is also addressed. Since full functionality of a mature AHS cannot be realized suddenly, discrete functional steps must be identified and optimized. This paper defines an evolutionary stage towards a mature AHS as any discernible functional increment whose realization may encounter considerabledifficultiesrequiring a significant amount of conscious effort toovercome.A good evolutionary scenario consists of stages each of which provides sufficient additional functionality that justifies the required effort to overcome the associated difficulties. Six dimensions of deployment difficulties are identified: technology, infrastructure, human factors, vehicle manufacturing and mainlenance. insurance and public will. An illustrative evolutionary scenario is also provided. Since issues regarding deploying AHS in thereal worldactuallydictateAHS technological requirements, deployment research should be anintegralpart of AHS concept definition/evaluation and system design.
