Primary radical hysterectomies with bilateral lymph node dissections were carried out on 100 consecutive cases, of Stage 1 and II carcinoma of the uterine cervix from October 1961 to December 1969, representing one‐third of all Stage I and II admitted to the Philippine General Hospital for treatment. The operative mortality was 3%. The 5 year cure rates of 70.2% (26/37) for Stage I and 53.5% (15/28) for Stage II arc calculated from the 65% of patients who have completed a minimum follow‐up of 5 years. With negative lymph nodes, the cure rates are 78.1% and 64.7% for Stage I and II respectively. The complications encountered were pelvic and urinary tract infections 51%; uretero vaginal fistulae 5% and vesicovaginul fistulae 2%. All the deaths and most of the complications occurred in the first five years, of study. Intrauterine infections have been asspciated with, and in some cases responsible for abortion, stillbirth, congenital malformation and severe illness during the neonatal period. Because of the subclinical nature of many of these infections in the adult, some infants are born with severe manifestations, of neonatal disease to mothers who have been apparently well during their pregnancy. Treatment is still unsatisfactory in the majority of such infections. In the viral infections, prophylactic vaccination would Seem to be the most effective method presently available, of decreasing their incidence. However, it should be realized that because of their relative infrequency, intrauterine infections except under certain circumstances, do not play a major role in neonatal mortality and morbidity. But the severity of many intrauterine infections on the fetus and the neonate, with the possible future development in chemotherapy makes it necessary for those concerned with the care of developing fetuses and neonates. to be aware of the clinical manifestations of these infections.

Serum leucine aminopeptidase activity increases, gradually with the gestation period, but not strikingly high enough during the first trimester to serve as a test for early pregnancy. In trophoblastic disease, particularly in hydatidiform mole, there is no definite elevation of serum leucine uminopeptidase activity. In ectopic gestation, fetal death and abruptio placentae, serum leucine aminopeptidase activity is. markedly depressed. The probable mechanism of this phenomenon is recounted. The serum leucine aminopeptidase activity in cord blood is slightly elevated, but still lower than that of corresponding maternal blood. The possibility that serum leucine uminopeptidase is transmissable through the “placental barrier” is proposed. A series of 30 cases of laparoscopy is presented. The indications for the operation and the technique are described. There was no complication in the series. The laparoscope is a useful tool to study tubal and ovarian pathology and may also be employed for tubal ligation.

The technique of using intravenous oxytocin in high concentration was safe and effective in aiding dilation of the cervix in 38 out of 40 cases of hydatidiform mole. However, curettage was required to complete the evacuation in all the cases. The same technique was also effective in the expulsion of retained dead fetuses in utero, in 17 out of 24 cases where the uterus was more than 12 weeks size; but was ineffective in the majority of cases where the uterus was less than 12 weeks size.

The serum protein levels of 100 under‐nourished women (50 primigravidae and 50 grand multiparae) were lower than those of the well‐nourished. This was expected but it is striking to note that there was no difference in the serum protein values between the primigravidae and grand multiparae having quick succession of pregnancies. Furthermore, the diet of the grand multiparae contained less protein but more carbohydrate than that of the primigravidae. Neither the maternal health nor the foetal growth af these two groups of women was affected: It appeared therefore, that the metabolism of the grand multiparae was adjustable to utilize more carbohydrate and less protein in order to maintain the maternal serum protein levels and to provide for normal foetal development.The serum γ‐globulin level was high among all the Chinese studied including the newborns suggesting it to be a racial characte

A case of Addison's. disease and pregnancy is presented. With carefully adjusted replacement therapy, the fertility of the patient was not impaired and no major complications were encountered during pregnancy, labour and puerperium.
