AbstractThe numerical solution of nonlinear, time‐dependent partial differential equations is discussed. By applying the method of lines such a partial differential equation is converted into a system of ordinary differential equations to which an implicit linear multistep method is applied. Using Newton iteration the nonlinear implicit relations are replaced by a sequence of linear equations. These linear equations are solved by the iterative use of a multi‐level algorithm. Numerical examples are given and a comparison is made with other integration techniq

摘要:
AbstractA pseudo spectral scheme using Chebyshev polynomials is presented to model wave propagation in inhomogeneous acoustic media. The computational domain is a square with Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions. An explicit modified Euler time marching scheme is used; thus the time steps are severely restricted by the clustering of the Chebyshev abscissa near the end points. Specifically, a numerical experiment is presented to estimate the order of accuracy of reflection and transmission coefficients at an interface. It was found to be proportional to the square of the grid spacing.
