AbstractThe aerodynamic characteristics of a thin cambered aerofoil are determined, when the aerofoil is set at incidence in a shear flow of incompressible inviscid fluid. First order effects are deduced assuming that the deviation from uniform flow is small, the velocity profile being parabolic in form.

AbstractBei Anströmung rasch rotierender Schaufelkränze mit Unterschallgeschwindigkeit kommt es zu Überschallströmungen, welche mit Rückwirkungen stromaufwärts verbunden sind. Solche Strömungen werden für stationäre Fälle mit linearen und exakten Methoden behandelt. AbstractRigorous solutions have been obtained giving the initial unsteady motion produced by the rotation of a circular cylinder in a viscous liquid. Both the external and internal solutions when the liquid is outside or inside the rotating cylinder have been obtained. In every case a steady state is reached. Curves showing how this steadiness spreads from infinity towards the cylinder for outside motion, and from the cylindrical surface towards the axis for internal motion, have been drawn.

AbstractBy using the theorie of finite deformation it is shown that a circular plate of radius d can be bent into a spherical shell by forces and couples applied to the edges only, the inner surface a and the outer surface b of the shell being free from tractions.
