AbstractTransitional stresses for a transversely isotropic circular cylinder subjected to torsion have been derived. It has been shown that the asymptotic solution through the stress and stress‐difference gives the plastic and creep stresses respectively. The effect of transverse isotropy is presented graphically. The results indicate that the value of maximum shear stress for a cylinder of transversely isotropic material is greater than that of an isotropic incompressible material and it increases with the increase in measure ‘n’. For an isotropic incompressible material, as a particular case, the results are the same as given by

AbstractDie Bruchstatistik berücksichtigt den Einfluß der lokalen Festigkeitsschwankungen auf die Entwicklung der Vorschädigung und deren Übergang in den makroskopischen Bruch. Die hierzu gewöhnlich benutzte Einzelrißnäherung wird an einem eindimensionalen Modellsystem aus nicht miteinander wechselwirkenden Elementen getestet. Für die offene und die geschlossene Elementekette werden Mittelwert und Schwankung der Rißlängenverteilung sowie die makroskopische Bruchwahrscheinlichkeit berechnet. Die Näherungsbeziehungen lassen sich hieraus als asymptotischer Grenzfall für große Systeme gewinnen. AbstractA semi‐infinite plate is exposed to the stepwise‐decelerated hypersonic flow at zero angle of attack. The boundary layer reconfiguration gives rise to an induced pressure. To obtain this temporal pressure distribution, the transformed momentum and energy equations have been solved using the approach of Ref. [1]. AbstractStarting from a class of parabolic systems considered in the literature for describing the operation of fast nuclear reactors, two kinds of modified systems are investigated: one accounts for retarded neutrons, the other one involves a small neutron feedback. It is shown that these systems, while equivalent to the original ones for any finite value of the neutron velocity, behave in a substantially different way in the limiting case of diverging neutron velocity. In particular, considering reta ded neutrons or neutron feedback terms avoids the appearance of undamped oscillations, which characterizes the behavior of the original systems in the same limiting case.
