Zusammenfassung: In einer Übersicht über das Weltschrifttum wird die Schlußfolge‐rung gezogen: Rauchen schädigt die männliche Zeugungsfähigkeit. Raucher sollten deshalb nicht nur im Hinblick auf ihre eigene Gesundheit mit dem Rauchen aufhören, sondern auch aus Ver‐antwortungsbewußtsein gegenüber der künftigen Generation. Die wichtigsten Gründe für diese Schlußfolgerung sind:1. Tabakrauch enthält zahlreiche mutagene Stoffe. Sie erreichen auf dem Blutwege das männliche Keimepithel. Ihre mutagene Wirkung können sie hier offenbar viel stärker entfalten als auf Eizellen, weil die Spermiogenese im Gegensatz zu den Eizellen, deren Bildung schon in der Fetalphase abgeschlossen wird, über die gesamte generative Phase des Mannes andauert.2. Die Mehrzahl der Untersuchungen spricht für eine Schädigungswirkung auch auf die Spermatozoenzahl und/oder die Beweglichkeit und Morphologie der Samenfäden durch starkes Rauchen über einen längeren Zeitraum. Insbesondere rauchenden Männern aus unfruchtbaren Ehen ist deshalb die Einstellung des Rauchens dringend zu raten.3. Gewichtige epidemiologische und experimentelle Hinweise deuten auch auf eine terato‐gene Wirkung des männlichen Rauchens bei den Nachkommen — unabhängig von den Rauchgewohnheiten der Mutter ‐ hin. Eine Überprüfung und Erweiterung der diesbe‐züglichen Befunde erscheint dringend wünschenswert.Smoking damages male fertilitySummary: It is concluded from a survey on the world literature: Smoking damages the male fertility. Smoker should therefore stop the smoking not only in respect to their own health but from sense of responsibility for the future generation too. The most important reasons for this conclusions are:1. Tobacco smoke contains numerous mutagenic substances. They reach the male gonads via the blood. They show their mutagenic action here openly much more stronger than on egg‐cells because the spermatogenesis continues over the whole male reproductive period whereas the formation of eggs is already completed in the fetal phase.2. The majority of studies indicates to a damaging effect also on the number and/or the motility and morphology of spermatozoa by strong smoking during a longer time. Especially smoking husbands with infertile marriages the urgent advice therefore should be given to stop smoking.3. Weigthy epidemiologjcal and experimental results suggest a teratogenic action in the offspring by smoking of fathers too — independently for the smoking customs of the mother. A verification

Summary: This study attempts to provide guidelines for the extraction and estimation of ATP from spermatozoa. The conditions of extraction of ATP from spermatozoa using trichloroacetic acid were optimized. The efficiency of this extraction procedure was compared to that using boiling Tris buffer. Three commercially available kits which use the firefly luciferase assay for ATP and two luminometers were evaluated for the measurement of the spermatozoa extracts. Elevated levels of Mg2+and/or Ca2+did not interfere with the extration of ATP by trichloroacetic acid or with the subsequent estimation of the nu‐cleotide.Extraktion und Bestimmung von ATP in menschlichen SpermatozoenZusammenfassung: Die vorliegende Untersuchung versucht Richtlinien aufzustellen für die Extraktion und Bestimmung von ATP in menschlichen Spermatozoen. Die Extrak‐tionsbedingungen für ATP wurden unter Verwendung von Trichloressigsäure optimiert. Die Effizienz des Extraktionsverfahrens wurde mit einem Verfahren verglichen, bei wel‐chem siedender Tris‐Puffer Verwendung fand. Summary: Reports concerning the content of α‐amino‐nitrogen and amino‐acids in human semen are few and results are different with authors. These variations could be explained by the no considerations of the changes due to liquefaction. In order to test this possible effect, measures were performed 30 mn, 1 h 30,3 h and 5 h after seminal collection.The content of the most amino‐acids increased with time except phosphoserine, tau‐rine and ornithine; several amino‐acids appear. In cases of azoospermia, levels of α‐amino‐nitrogen and amino‐acids were lower. The content of amino‐acids is not influenced by the spermatozoa count that seems to indicate their glandular origins. The free amino‐acids content had to be considered in regard to cases with low liquefaction. But, in all cases it appears necessary to use a strictly standardized method since results are influenced with time.Deproteinization was obtained with mixture of baryum hydroxyde and zinc sulfate. The data were compared to results of spermiogram. According to seminal parameters, 6 categories were distinguished. Measures showed a significant increase of the α‐amino‐nitrogen with time. The chromatography separation showed 19 different free amino‐acids.Zusammenfassung: Deproteinisierung wurde durch Mischung von Bariumhydroxyd und Zinksulfat erreicht. Die Ergebnisse wurdem mit den Ergebnissen des Spermiogramms ver‐glichen. Je nach dem Spermaparameter konnten sechs verschiedene Kategorien festgestellt werden. Die Messungen zeigen mit der Zeit eine Vermehrung der Aminossluren. Die Chro‐matographie zeigte neunzehn verschiedene freie Aminossluren.Der Gehalt der meisten Aminosäuren vergrößert sich mit der Zeit, ausgenommen: Phosphoserin, Taurin, Omithin. Bei Azoospermie ist der Gehalt an Aminonitrogen und Ami‐nossluren niedriger.Der Gehalt der Aminosáuren vergrowird nicht von der Spermatozoendichte beeinfluß; das beweist die Herkunft der Aminosäuren aus den akzessorischen Dräsen.Es scheint notwendig, eine streng standardisierte Bestimmungsmethode zu verwenden, wei

Summary: We determined the calcitonin (CT) levels in peripheral plasma and in seminal fluid of 15 normal human subjects: the concentration of the hormone in seminal fluid was about 30 times higher than the concentration found in peripheral plasma. We also studied the localization of calcitonin on human spermatozoa by means of an indirect immunofluorescent technique, using an anti‐human CT rabbit serum and a fluo‐rescein‐isothiocyanate conjugated goat anti‐rabbit immunoglobulins serum. A bright fluorescence was observed at the middle piece and neck, while the tail's principal piece was weakly stained.With an anti‐human CT rabbit serum pre‐absorbed with human CT no fluorescent staining was detectable.These findings demonstrate that calcitonin is localized onto spermatozoa and suggest a potential role for calcitonin in the calcium dependent‐mechanisms of spermatozoa.Calcitonin im menschlichen Spermaplasma und seine Lokalisation an menschlichen SpermatozoenZusammenfassung: Bei 15 gesunden Männern wurde Calcitonin (C) im Blutplasma und im Spermaplasma bestimmt. Die Konzentration im Spermaplasma war 30 mal höher als im peripheren Blutplasma. Weiterhin wurden Untersuchungen über die Lokalisation von C. an menschlichen Spermatozoen mittels indirekter Immunfluoreszenz unter Verwen‐dung von Anti‐Human‐CT‐Meerschweinchenserurn und von einem konjugierten Fluores‐cein‐Isothiocyanat Ziegen‐Anti‐Meerschweinchen‐Immunoglobulinserum vorgenommen. Es konnte eine helle Fluoreszenz am Mittelteil und am Hals beobachtet werden, während das Hauptstück der Geißel nur schwach gefärbt war. Mit einem Anti‐Human‐CT‐Meer‐schweinchen‐Serum, das präabsorbiert war mit menschlichem CT war eine Fluoreszenz‐färbung nicht festzustellen. Nach Auffassung der Autoren zeigen diese Ergebnisse, daß C an den Spermatozoen lokalisiert ist; das legt die Auffassung nahe, daß in den calciumab‐hängigen

Summary: The pattern of protein synthesis in Sertoli and germ cells during the ontogeny of spermatogenesis in the rat was followed by autoradiography using (3H)‐Leucine as precursor. The results suggest that the protein synthetic potential of Sertoli cells is greater than that of germ cells at any stage of differentiation. Significantly enough, the ontogeny‐related protein synthetic capabilities of the germ cell compartment find a parallel in those reported for the adult rodent. Furthermore, the data support the suggestion that proteins may be transported from Sertoli cells to germ cells.Proteinsynthese wahrend der Spermatogenese in den Tubuli seminiferi‐Epithelien der Ratte — eine autoradiographische StudieZusammenfassung: Die Struktur der Proteinsynthese in Sertoli‐ und Keimzellen der Ratte während der Spermatogenese wurde unter Verwendung von3H‐Leucin als Vorstufe autoradiographisch verfolgt. Summary: The recent detection of immunoreactive POMC derived pep tides in the male reproductive tract raised the possibility that these hormones might regulate reproductive function. In addition, a variety of studies suggested that POMC derived peptides have paracrine effects in the testis. In this present study, after HCG addition to the organ culture medium, Sertoli cells cytoplasma became immunoreactive with the enkephalins antisera.Immunhistochemische Lokalisation der Enkaphaline im Hoden der erwachsenen Ratte: Beweis für eine gonadotrope KontrolleZusammenfassung: Die moderne Bestimmung der immunreaktiven Proopiomelanocor‐tin(POMC)‐Peptid‐Derivate im männlichen Reproduktionstrakt erhöhte die Möglichkeit, daß diese Hormone die Reproduktionsfunktion regulieren. Summary: A method of cell separation by enzymatic attack and filtration was applied after injecting the testes. The results indicated that in the case of the interstitial injections, the fraction rich in interstitial cells captures from 30 to 50 times more RISA than that rich in germinal cells, and from 10 to 20 times more than that rich in Sertoli cells. Following the intratubular injection, radioactivity incorporation was greatly reduced and there were no differences in RISA (radioactivity/mg of protein) among the cell fractions. It was concluded that Sertoli cells do not have in its apical side a phagocytic activity comparable to that of the interstitial macrophages and possibly they incorporate only a small amount of tracer by a process of moderate pinocytosis.Inkorporierung und intrazellulare Hydrolyse von131J‐Albumin nach Injektion in den RattenhodenZusammenfassung: Mittels einer Zelltrennungsmethode (Enzymatische Einwirkung und Filtration) wurden die Aufnahme von131J‐Albumin und die Hydrolyse untersucht. Die Ergebnisse legen offen, daß bei interstitiellen Injektionen die interstitiellen Zellen etwa 30–50mal mehr RISA speichert als in den Keimzellen nachzuweisen ist; in den Sertoli‐Zellen ergab sich, daß die Werte in den Interstüums‐Zellen 10–20mal höher lagen. Nach intratubulärer Injektion war die Radioaktivität deutlich reduziert und es ergaben sich keine Unterschiede in RISA hinsichtlich der Zellfraktionen. Es wird die Schlußfolge‐rung gezogen, daß die Sertoli‐Zellen in ihrem apikalen Teil keine phagozytische Aktivität vergleichbar jener der interstitiellen Makrophagen besitzen und möglicherweise lediglich einen geringen Anteil des Tracers inkorporieren mit

Summary: We present the case of a patient whose semen contained 30% of sperm with double heads and double tails at various stages of attachment due to abnormal meiosis. The genital system, sperm density, endocrinological profile and karyotype were normal. It is postulated that abundance of the above‐noted type of sperm pathology in the human semen might not necessarily be associated with oligozoospermia or fertility impairment.Hohes Ausmaß von Doppelkopf‐ und Doppelschwanz‐Spermatozoen im Sperma eines Mannes.
