摘要:
Eight nulliparous female subjects were examined daily through one menstrual cycle. The paper reports significant phase differences in the potassium concentration of palmar surface fluid, highest values being obtained in the luteal phase. The results are discussed with reference to the suggested adaptive value of high uterine potassium concentrations and the reduction in uterine membrane potentials.

摘要:
Constant light and darkness produce distinct 24‐hr patterns of tissue serotonin when those tissues are maintained in organ culture. The patterns vary from the serotonin produced by the light and dark adapted animals. It is concluded that constant light and darkness cause changes in serotonin metabolismin vivowhich are masked by organismal homeostatic mechanisms. Other data indicated that the tissues in the culture system could respond directly to illumination which entrained a 24‐hr production of serotonin.

Plots of oviposition times for an unselected group of 84 femaleCoturnixusing the circular mean time for each bird on a central index time indicated a regularity in the data for individual birds. An analysis of pooled data using a moving average showed agreement with the temporal occurrence of the photoresponsive interval reported in the literature for gonadal development. These data were used to support a modification of existing hypothesis on the control of oviposition and ovulation.

摘要:
The circadian rhythm of mating‐reactivity inParamecium bursariawas investigated to clarify its adaptability to reversed light‐dark cycle as well as to light‐dark cycles at various period. Paramecia cultured with lettuce extract inoculated with food bacteria were killed with ammonium sulfate in mating reactive state by an auto‐killing apparatus every 2 hours and tested its mating reactivity by mixing with living tester cells. The following results were obtained: the phase of rhythm was reversed in 2 to 3 day time and the period was changed between 12 and 36 hrs. These results are discussed and compared with those of other animals previously reported.

摘要:
Both tryptophan oxygenase and tyrosine aminotransferase of rat liver show diurnal variations in the inducibility by quinolinic acid. The maxima of effectiveness of quinolinic acid precede the maxima of normal enzyme activity. In the case of tyrosine aminotransferase, the induction kinetics and the dose response curve were also greatly depending on the time of day. No rhythmicity could be detected in the activities of 3‐hydroxyanthranilate oxygenase and ornithine aminotransferase.

Rat liver histidase activity shows a diurnal rhythm with a peak in the first part of dark‐time. The maximum coincides with those of other rate‐limiting enzymes of hepatic amino acid catabolism. No significant variations can be observed in urocanase activity.

NADH oscillations of glycolysing yeast cells are phase shifted by the addition of acetaldehyde or pyruvate in low concentrations (0.05 resp. 0.07 mM) depending on the original phase of NADH at which these chemicals are added. Phase shift is most pronounced at the inflection point of rising NADH, it is medium if NADH is at its maximum or minimum and the effect becomes negligible at the inflection point of falling NADH.

Comparison was made between the heliocentric synodic periods of the five outer planets and a periodogram of sunspot numbers with alternate cycles reversed, adjusted for the dominant 22.22‐yr cycle and with excessive peaks and troughs minimized. Eight synodic periods are available for comparison between 12 and 150 yrs. The periodogram suggests the possibility of 16 sunpot cycles between these lengths. Five of the conjunction periods correspond to suggested sunspot number cycles within about onetenth of 1% of the indicated cycle length. A sixth conjunction period corresponds within about 1% of the indicated cycle length. No theory of relationship is advanced.
