摘要:
An understanding of the sorptional equilibrium of food systems is an important objective in food engineering. In particular, a knowledge of the equilibrium characteristics of foodstuffs is an essential prerequisite for interpretation of the mass transport phenomena during drying. The equilibrium moisture content of a food system is developed as a result of the interaction between the material and the environment. A standard static gravimetric technique was adopted to evaluate the moisture sorption characteristics of the model food gels. The high-starch systems displayed Type II isotherm characteristics, while the high-sugar systems presented Type III behaviour. Adequate quantitative evaluation of the sorption characteristics was realized on the basis of the Guggenheim-Anderson-de Boer model.

摘要:
Experimental data on sorption isotherms of alfalfa pellets were used to determine the thermodynamic functions (differential heat of sorption, spreading pressure, net integral enthalpy and entropy) of the pellets. The thermodynamic functions were then utilized in modeling the specific heats of pellets as a function of moisture content. The estimated values of the thermodynamic functions at different moisture contents confirmed the results of an earlier study on the influence of moisture sorption on the physical integrity of the pellets. The changes in the thermodynamic properties and physical integrity were prominent when the moisture of the pellets were between 0.10 and 0.12 (mass fraction basis). Using the differential heat of sorption, it was determined that alfalfa pellets have higher affinity for moisture uptake when compared to wheat and lentils. The specific heat of the solids of alfalfa pellets had a parabolic relationship with moisture whereas the specific heat of water fraction increased linearly with moisture content of the pellets.

摘要:
A novel drum dryer for black liquor utilizing multiple impinging jets of superheated steam was designed and built to evaluate the performance characteristics and effects of various operating parameters thereon. Appropriate ranges of parameters such as steam jet temperature and velocity were examined experimentally lo quantify the optimal operating conditions for the formation of black liquor film on the drum surface as well as the drying kinetics.

摘要:
The ASEAN-Canada Project on Soar Energy in Drying Processes officialy started on 1 Apr 1992 with contracts signed between the National Project Offices (NPOs) from the ASEAN countres and the Canada an Executing Agency The project official terminated on 31 March 1996 Unger the project, 9 implements consisting of 6 solar drying units and three heat pump dryers were designed, constructed and installed in 5 of ASEAN countries, i.e. Indonesia. Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Despite some problems encountered during the period of construction and installation, all the implements have operated successfully and functioned as expected. They serve as demonstration units in each of ASEAN country involved. Through the ASEAN-Canada Project, ASEAN researchers gained know-how on the state-of-the art of the solar and heat pump drying technologies. This know-how was gained through a series of workshops / seminars during the course of the project, and through the hands-on experience in designing, constructing and installing the implements. The presence of the implements have drawn some interests from some institutions and private sectors in some ASEAN countries, while in others solar drying technology is considered as having potential as a viable alternative technology in the future. This paper presents brief description of each implement and summarizes the main achievements of the Project.

摘要:
A probe for particle temperature measurements in fluidized bed dryers is described in this work. The probe, consisting of a thermistor placed inside a turning cup, was tested in a pilot scale dryer, where particle temperatures were monitored during batch drying tests. The measurements were validated by comparison with readings made in collapsed beds. Temperature readings were given a physical interpretation, as surface particle temperature, or average particle temperature, depending on the drying regime. The dynamic response of the probe was also analyzed. As an application, it is shown how panicle temperatures, along with local wet bulb and dry bulb air temperatures, can be used to monitor and control the drying process. The simplicity of construction, installation and associated method makes the probe attractive for both research and industrial purposes.

摘要:
A batch fluidized bed dryer was carried out for corn drying. Drying characteristics of corn were investigated The experimental results indicated that moisture transfer inside a corn kernel was controlled by internal diffusion by the following conditions : inlet hot air temperatures of 120 - 200 °C, superficial air velocities of 2.2- 4 m/s, bed depths of 4 - 12 cm, fraction of air recycled of 0.5 -0.9 and initial moisture content of corn of 43 % dry-basis. The Wang and Sing equation could describe in accordance with the results. Inlet hot air temperature and specific air flow rate were independent variables for drying constant model in the Wang and Singh equation.

摘要:
This paper explores the influence of temperature and pressure on drying kinetics of 2-(3-benzoylphenil propionic acid) ketoprofen, in a vacuum dryer on laboratory scale, Experimentally determined relations between moisture content and drying rate vs time, were approximated with an exponential model. Model parameters were correlated with drying conditions (temperature, pressure) and defined by functions of their potentions.

摘要:
In continuation of a series of tests, the original results of oak drying in an evacuated kiln are presented here for different plate temperatures and for various pressures in the kiln. These results include more particularly the drying curves, the evolution of temperature, of moisture and of pressure in and on the wood. They evidence the pressure and the levels of temperature occurring in the wood during the drying period.
