A dynamic rcsring dnim war built to study the effects of air temperature, moisture content and grain shape on fragility of the air dried kernels. For drying rares under 0.05 kglkg min. the fragility of kernels could br described empirically as a function of the three experimental parameters.

The DINC (Direct-Indirect Evaporative Cooling) cycle was proposed in 1986 by Texas A6H researchers. The idea wae to combine the benefits of direct and indirect evaporative cooling with desiccant dehumidifying using a rotating aolid silica-gel dehumidifier. Recent parametric studies completed for the Texas Energy Ramarch In Applications Program have-devoloped a computer desrgn for s nomlnal 3-con system that would minimize the energy conuvmption (both thermal and electric) while mslntainina a sensible heat ratio of 75% or less. That “optimum design” for the original 1986 DINC cycle wae modified to improve ite energy efficiecy. The modifications deecribed in this paper were: (1) staging the desiccant regeneration air and (2) recirculation of the primary air to the secondary aide of the indirect evaporative cooler. Computersimulations were run to study the effect of the modifications on the performance of the system. American Refrigeration Institute (ARI) standard conditions (Ambient sir at 35°C. 40% R.H. and Room air at 26.7°C. 50% R.H.) were used for all the modifications. Results were sleo compared to the familiar Pennington (ventilation) cycle.

A regression analysis wae conducted on experimental data obtained during the testing of a solid desiccant dehumidifier (Bharathan et a1.) at the Solar Enerav Research Institute (SERI has since been renamed the National Renewable Energy Laborstory). The data obtained was studied using statietical techiiquee to determine the regression equation for the temperature and humidity at the processed air outlet of the dehumidifier. These variables determine the cooling capacity and efficiency (Coefficient of Performance) of any deeiccant cooling cycle. The analysis ie uaed to determine therelative Impact the input parametere have on the outlet temperature and humidity.

is a comblnatlon of a book and a disk for performing heat transfer calculations on a computer. The book is a manual covering different heat transfer situations in fourteen chapters, from steady state conduction to heat transfer errectiveness. The book is a tutorial on how to use the computer software and is of little use without the software. The software Is really the problem “solver.” An IBM-PC, -XT or Compatible computer is required. The disk-5 1/4 in-comes with the book. It would be more appropriate to write that the disk comes wlth the book that explains its use.
