摘要:
Thanks to a Fourier transform with respect to the spatial coordinate describing the direction of the cylinder axis, we are led to a two-dimensional problem. A set of four integral equations is then established from a rigorous integral theory, where the Fourier transform of the field on the surface of the cylinder is unknown. With the help of a boundary finite elements method, the integral system is converted into a linear system of equations. This system is not uniquely solvable for a discrete set of irregular frequencies. However, it is possible to overcome this difficulty by adding constraints out of the boundary. To ensure the accuracy of the numerical implementation, the singular parts of the kernels are isolated and their integration is performed analytically. In this paper, results are given when the excitation is a plane wave with arbitrary polarization and oblique incidence (conical diffraction), but only the knowledge of the Fourier transform of the incident field is required.

摘要:
The waves propagating on the surface of an arbitrary convex transparent body are studied by the boundary layer method. When the refraction index of the body is high enough. both creeping and whispering gallery type of wave can propagate. The propagation constant are shown to be the same as for an equivalent body described by an impedance boundary condition. When the refraction index is close to 1, waves of mixed type, looking like creeping outside and whispering gallery inside propagate.

摘要:
An exact and explicit solution for the reflection and transmission problem of a lossy exponential transmission line of finite length is derived in both the frequency and the time domain via a wave-splitting approach. The problem is formulated first in the frequency domain. Wave-splitting is defined and the solution for internal voltages and currents is derived. Closed-form solutions for the reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained. The explicit solution for a transmission line consisting of several exponential pieces (each with different taper) in series is then easily written down. To obtain the transient response of the lossy exponential line, a time domain Green function approach based on wave-splitting is used. Linear partial differential equations for the Green functions together with the initial and boundary conditions are derived and solved explicitly. The exact and explicit solutions for the transient reflection and transmission up to arbitrary large times are given.

The problem of electromagnetic scattering of a normally incident plane wave from a coated conducting notched circular cylinder is solved. The coating material and the notch material have arbitrary permittivity and permeability values, and the incident wave is either TM or TE polarized. Numerical results of backscattering cross section calculations are presented, and the dependence of the cross section on the various physical parameters is investigated. The coated notched cylinder possesses characteristic electromagnetic resonances that manifest themselves in the scattering patterns.

摘要:
The scattering of electromagnetic waves by two-dimensional grating with magnetodielectric rods is solved by the new method based on the rigorous integral equations of macroscopic electrodynamics. This method is considered in detail. The computer program for the numerical solution of the proposed scattering problem is created. The plots of the transmission coefficient for the gratings with dielectric, magnetodielectric, metallic rods are given as examples.

The canonical problem of a line source of electric current parallel to a linear conducting layer is solved to model "realistic worst case" lightning magnetic field coupling to a conducting enclosure. The maximum voltage that can be coupled to an interior loop as well as the maximum interior magnetic field are determined. A truncation method is used to approximate the exact integral transform solution and thus yield closed form results.

摘要:
Electrostatic image theory for a point charge on the axis of a perfectly conducting prolate spheroid is formulated. The exact image expression is found using the Havelock identity, according to which the external harmonics of the potential solution emanate from a system of continuous image sources distributed along the focal line. An approximate image is derived in the case of a slightly prolate sphere, which in the spherical limit resembles the image solution due to Lord Kelvin. An expression for the image polarization density function is derived for the axial dipolar source.
