摘要:
This paper discusses the search for neutrino oscillations as a probe for the possibility of small neutrino masses. None of the experiments provides definitive evidence for neutrino mass, but there is a strong indication of a mass from the study of neutrinos from the Sun. If non-zero neutrino masses are definitely confirmed, it would have important implications for particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology.

摘要:
The physics of nuclear rotations is reviewed. In order to illustrate the universality of the subject, parallels with other fields in physics are drawn, with special emphasis on concepts such as spontaneous symmetry breaking, phase transitions, quantal fluctuations and chaotic behaviour, making use of a language common to studies of quantum systems with many degrees of freedom.

X-ray diffraction can give us information about the structure of crystalline materials. Recent developments in the duration and brightness of X-ray sources have given rise to the potential to observe rapid changes in such crystals on the picosecond, or perhaps even femtosecond timescale. Time-resolved X-ray diffraction will yield new data on the rapid deformation of materials, biological processes, and even on chemical reaction kinetics.

摘要:
A review is given of recent experimental studies on the onset of dissipation in the flow of superfluid4He through submicron-size apertures. These studies have revealed the occurrence of energy loss in discrete events. The interpretation of these events in terms of the motion of individual quantum vortices across the flow is discussed.

摘要:
Fullerenes are all-carbon polyhedral cage molecules in which each atom is directly bonded to three neighbours and the n atoms and 3n/2 edges are arranged in 12 pentagonal and n/2–10 hexagonal rings. Simple mathematical and physical models can be used to count and construct isomers, to assign symmetries, to estimate geometries, to predict the (rare) appearances of property closed πelectron configurations and to rationalize trends in overall stability in this new and growing family of molecules.
