摘要:
Mineralogic and textural data suggest that glacial ice derived from the region of the present day Cook Ice Shelf extended to the edge of the d'Urville Sea continental shelf. As part of this glacial maximum, basal tills and glacial marine sediments were deposited over an irregular subglacial surface. Extensive redeposition of eroded material took place in the middle and outer portions of the continental shelf. Retreat of glacial ice was relatively rapid and was associated with widespread deposition of a thin residual glacial marine unit and turbidity current deposits in the far western and eastern parts of the region. Today, sedimentation on the continental shelf of the d'Urville Sea is controlled by biogenic and physical oceanographic processes. Deposition of ice‐rafted detritus from icebergs undoubtedly occurs but is relatively insignificant. Glacial advances along this periphery of East Antarctica appear to the regulated by adjacent outlet glaciers rather than direct advance of the grounded ice shee

摘要:
The magnetic suceptibility of Late Weichselian glacial, late‐glacial and post‐glacial deposits from Blekinge, southeast Sweden, has been measured. The susceptibility variations proved to be dependent upon the particle size distribution of the sample and the type of bedrock from which the deposit is derived. Comparison of susceptibility variations in the Baltic Ice Lake and lacustrine sediments with biological indicators of environmental change suggests that susceptibility can be a useful complement to studies aimed at identifying lake isolation, climatic change or changes in erosion within the catchment. The results also suggest that comparison of susceptibility versus fraction size curves can aid lithostratigraphic division of unconsolidated depos

摘要:
The modern diatom flora from surface sediment of the Navarin Basin region of the Bering Sea is dominated byDenticulopsis seminaeandNitzschia oceanica. D. seminae, a north boreal species, is most abundant in the deeper waters of the slope‐basin regions, whereasN. oceanica, an Arctic species associated with ice cover, dominates the shallow shelf waters. Downcore studies show that these species alternate in dominance within the late Quaternary sediments. This alternation suggests responses to climatic fluctuations. The interval at whichD. seminaeis replaced downcore byN. oceanicain dominating the assemblage is distinct and can be correlated in cores throughout the study area as well as adjacent regions. This interval represents the transition from glacial to interglacial conditions and the Holocene‐Pleistocene bound

摘要:
Caseldine&Edwards (Boreas, Vol. 11, pp. 119–122) have misrepresented assessments of published evidence in the paper by Sissons 1981 (Boreas, Vol. 10, No. 1). They have not used radiocarbon dates objectively and argue illogically. A different interpretation for the Teindland site is suggeste
