摘要:
This paper describes a series of measurements made on several different types of steel in order to investigate changes in the magnetic properties as a function of temper embrittlement. The results show systematic changes in the magnetic properties which are attributed to grain boundary segregation of strengthening impurity elements. It appears from the work that magnetic inspection methods have excellent potential for utilization in the nondestructive evaluation of temper embrittlement in ferritic steels.

摘要:
An experimental study into the interaction of Rayleigh waves with surface defects is presented, with particular reference to the subsequent radiation of shear waves into the bulk of the sample. A pulsed laser source is used for this purpose, with detection by either interferometry or an EMAT. Schemes for estimating the defect depth are presented. The results of experiments using both artificial slots and real fatigue cracks will be discussed.
