摘要:
AbstractThe Management and Investment Program (MIC) of the Australian Government sought to allow market forces to ‘pick the winners’ by providing tax incentives for private sector venture capital companies: it does not target this to particular sectors. The result has been that investment has covered a wide range of areas of potential development It is argued that Australia's isolation, small domestic economy and relative immaturity in technology based industries necessitates the concentration of limited resources into areas which are likely to produce success.

摘要:
AbstractThe intensification of technology transfer from state-financed institutions to the economy has been a goal of German policy-makers since the mid-70s. This study shows the problems they have encountered in three such organisations—the universities, the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (FhG) and the big science centres. Political guidance can lead to a reorientation towards academic research in the big science centres, subordination to the industrial research agenda in the universities and an identification with industrial research in FhG.

摘要:
AbstractA nanotechnology scenario is presented as if observing the world from the year 2015. The incremental, high techno-economic and total societal scenarios convey the range of possibilities that ought to be anticipated. The implications are too great for the traditional reliance on reactive ‘social innovation’ in response to technological innovation gone awry.Given the magnitude of the potential impacts several actions appear warranted now: the topic should be considered immediately; centers should be set up backed by government and industry support; ongoing public education efforts should build on the recent spurt of popular coverage of nanotechnology; governmental and academic units should devise alternative institutional structures to deal with emerging nanotechnology issues.

摘要:
AbstractThe National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is an institution under the State Council of the People's Republic of China (PRC), but it functions independently. It was established in February 1986. The science foundation system has a long history in many other countries, but is still fairly new in China. It is a product of China's reform and open policies. This gives an introduction to, and analysis of the first three years' work of the NSFC in its task of guiding, co-ordinating and supporting basic research by the effective use of a fund for science.

摘要:
AbstractThe computerisation of industry in China is rather limited. However, as part of the post-Mao policy of economic modernisation, the Chinese Government gives high priority to the development and diffusion of new technologies. In the textiles and garments industries, it would appear that China can expand its share of the market with a selective use of new, microelectronics-based technologies such as CAD/CAM, which enable an improvement in product quality and flexibility in responding to demand fluctuations.
