摘要:
&NA;Injury to articular cartilage is a problem causing debilitating symptoms that often require surgical intervention. Traditional surgeries provide treatments to relieve symptoms of pain, locking, and swelling. With advances in technology, chondral defects can now be repaired. By repairing the cartilage, individuals have a far better chance of having healthy, active lifestyles including high activity, such as sports, or normal activities of daily living, such as working. But everyone is not a candidate for cartilage repair. By understanding the significance of the injury and the available surgical interventions, nurses can provide information that can enable a favorable outcome.

摘要:
&NA;Tuberculosis (TB) has been around since the beginning of time but for the past decade has experienced an increasing prevalence. TB starts in the lungs but can travel to any organ or structure of the body. The vertebrae are the most often afflicted sites of extra‐pulmonary lesions. Pott's disease is the name given to TB of the spine. There are interventions that can enable a person with Pott's disease to return to an optimal level of functioning, and nurses have a pivotal role in helping the patient attain that level. A case study with diagnostic findings and interventions is presented in this article.

摘要:
Purpose:To identify physical function, role function, and meaning of injury in adults with a distal radius fracture.Sample:Convenience sample of 60 adults with an isolated distal radius fracture.Method:Repeated measures of analysis of variance were used to test the relationship of gender, age, education, hand dominance, preinjury physical health, and treatment modality to physical function, role function, and meaning of illness/injury. The independent variable is time and the dependent variables are physical function, role function, and meaning of illness/injury.Findings:Although improvement occurred with time, older adults had significantly lower physical functioning than younger adults while their wrist was immobilized, and middle‐age adults had significantly lower role functioning compared to younger and older adults. Physical function was influenced by age, and role function was influenced by both age and education. Conclusion:The identified need for additional guidance and physical and emotional support with the standard treatment of distal radius fractures highlights the need for nursing care during the early recovery period.

摘要:
&NA;Imagine a parent innocently swinging around a toddler…a yank on an outstretched arm to keep a preschooler from falling…a caregiver attempting to move a reluctant child by dragging the child by the hand…a helping hand to lift a young child up over the curb or a high step. None of these activities is ever intended to hurt a child, yet the result of these specific activities send many children with anxious parents and caregivers to emergency departments and unscheduled pediatrician appointments each year. Nursemaid's elbow, also known as a pulled elbow or a subluxated radial head, may result from the specific activities described above and is the most common dislocation injury handled by pediatricians. Most commonly occurring in the 1‐year to 4‐year old age group, nursemaid's elbow is easily treated and generally has no long‐term sequelae.

摘要:
&NA;Therapeutic recreation is a viable rehabilitation treatment for orthopaedic disabilities. Interdisciplinary treatment teams should consider therapeutic recreation interventions using the Health Prevention/Health Promotion Model in management of orthopaedic disabilities to enhance the client's present level of functioning to optimal health.
