摘要:
Skeletal traction has been used to treat certain hip and pelvic fractures for decades. Since the need for cost cutting measures has been recognized, a home program for managing the patient discharged in skeletal traction has been developed. This article addresses the program formulation, disciplines involved, patient selection, coordination of events and services, patient and family teaching, and actual home management.

摘要:
Pressure sores are an age-old problem that have been the subject of many treatment articles, yet continue to plague patients and health care workers with their relentlessness. As health care becomes more cost conscious and results oriented, pressure sores are an intolerable complication of illness. Nurses must place renewed emphasis on understanding and preventing pressure sores. This article discusses the etiology of pressure sore development, identification of risk, nursing interventions related to prevention, utilization of mechanical pressure relief devices, and discharge considerations.

摘要:
Peroneal nerve damage can result from ischemia, compression, or entrapment. The most frequent complaint patients have is that they cannot walk as well as they did prior to surgery. When peroneal nerve damage occurs, it can be either temporary, if detected early, or permanent. Proper positioning is the key to preventing peroneal nerve damage in hospitalized and institutionalized patients.

摘要:
The suggestions included in this manuscript are my opinion and are submitted to stimulate thought. Since there is a difference in law and nurse practice acts from state to state, any particularity should be discussed with the institution's legal counsel.
