Self‐diffusion of Ag110in silver single crystals subjected to simultaneous deformation at 800 and 900°C was studied using the sectioning technique. The crystals were orientated for duplex slip and were deformed in extension and compression at constant strain rates in the range 1 to 28×10−5sec.−1. Total strains as large as 0.33 were attained. Recrystallization occurred in the initially single crystal specimens during diffusion‐deformation under all conditions except tension at 800°C.The effect of straining on the rate of diffusion was found to be small in all cases. The straining changed the diffusivities by less than 50%, and it is concluded that the observed changes were probably within the experimental error. The results indicate that any increases in diffusion rate due to the generation of point defects or short‐circuiting paths during deformation were small. These conclusions are shown to be consistent with other experiments involving these phenomena.

摘要:
The total magnetic losses in a silicon steel transformer core have been measured at temperatures from 20° to 273°K using a variable‐frequency simple‐harmonic flux wave with magnetic field intensity amplitudesBmfrom 2 to 10 kilogauss. The hysteresis, or frequency independent, part of the losses was obtained by graphical extrapolation. For all field intensities this hysteresis loss increases with decreasing temperature but the relative increase at any temperature is independent of field intensity. At all temperatures the hysteresis loss can be represented, within the accuracy of the data, by the empirical equation of SteinmetzWh=w(T)Bmn. In addition, the exponentnin this equation was found to be independent of temperature. A figure showing the eddy‐current, or frequency dependent, part of the losses for 0.014‐inch laminations is also included.

摘要:
If a central body does not have an inversion center, the eccentricity of a satellite orbit varies periodically, with low frequency and large amplitude. Thus, unless the satellite is initially in a large enough orbit, it may strike the central body, even in the absence of dissipative forces. Details are worked out for a central body composed of a large spherical mass and a small point mass contained somewhere within it. Application is made to satellites of the moon.

摘要:
A perturbation calculation gives the resonance polarization of a molecule in an electric field as a function of time. An analysis is then made of maser operation with a divergent, univelocity beam. Equations are derived which give the relative beam intensity required to start oscillation and the molecularQas a function of cavity length. An optimum cavity length is predicted. This theory is compared with a similar theory ofK. Shimoda which assumes a Maxwell velocity distribution, and reasonable agreement is obtained. On the basis of this agreement it is possible to define an equivalent divergence of the velocity distributed beam.
